I want to take a second to thank everyone who has helped with this and everyone who has read it in hopes of increasing your personal or our overall DPS. I by no means take credit for all of the work put into this, I am just updating this post.

The point of this thread is to be an ongoing collection of ways to maximize DPS for every class. It will start out with  basic, easily applied tips. As I research and as others add to it, I will continue to update the first post to reflect the ideas.

Remember DPS classes, your goal is to do as much damage as quick as possible. It doesn't matter how good your tanks, healers, and crowd control are, if you don't have the DPS, many raids are literally impossible. You don't want to read trash though, let's get right into it.



Parsing

It is very important that you know how much damage you're already doing to figure out what you need to do to increase it. That's where parsing comes in.

With GamParse as long as you haven't turned off any filters altogether and have everything assigned to a chat window you are ready to log. (I advise multiple chat windows, atleast one for major battle spam and nothing else) Just /log on and your log file is running. (You need to go to file and load your characters log file - By Default his will be -- C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest\Logs )

I cannot stress this enough, Do Not Rely On Someone Elses Parse. Even if you are consistantly in the top 10, you should still be parsing and seeing where you can improve, what you messed up, what others are doing.


Benefits of Parsing (with GamParse) That means if you see another person of your same class out DPS'ing you by a large margin, you can see exactley how they did it.
(If your group leader did not have Spell Awareness they will show as unknown. Switch leader's to someone who does when possible.)

Important Note About Parsing - Someone elses log will not pick up everything you do, nor should you expect your parse to show what everyone else did. Though it is a nice guideline each persons individual parse will be different.




Attributeable DPS  (with Class Buffs)

Remember, it's not always about how well you do, but how well we do together. That's not to say we don't want you to personally parse well, but what you can do for others is often more than you can do by yourself. Im talking of course about ways to directley (or indirectley) increase others DPS.

This is by no means a complete list. If you know what is missing, please let me know via comment or in game tell.

Im not going to go specifically into every spire but it is important to note that many classes have group spires that actually belong on this list. (Enchanter 2nd spire is mana, 3rd spire is crit chance, for example)

The most important part about these effects is that the majority of them stack. Great example, with Bard's Fierce Eye, Ranger's Auspice of the Hunter, and Magicians First Spire, the mage has an 85% crit chance.

Multibinding

The easiest way for most of us to increase our DPS is to increase our casting rate.

The easiest way to increase your casting rate is to multibind.

In short, multibinding is assigning several spells/aa's/potion belt clicks to a single button press. For a detailed breakdown, click the link above (the post was originally made by a mage, but you can obviously just put your own spells/aa's in place).

Alt-O, Keys tab - You can see that any number of things can be linked to a single button.

It will always check them in order of Spells then Hotbar then potion belt. Spell 1 will always go before spell 2, spell 2 will always go before hotbar 1 .. You get the picture.

So, as a mage, my full burn would make Spell gems 1 2 3 4 all linked to the same button (In order RS, Jolt, Bolt, Fickle). I also linked Force of Elements AA nuke and a few potion belt slots to mine.  ----- The Majority of my time on burns is now spent just pressing X over and over. How much easier can it get?

(Oh yeah, AA/Disc/alternate spell stacking and timing goes in there, too. But we'll get into that later)

Class Specific

With lack of a better place to put this - Remember all classes have had clickies put on their chest pieces for the last few expansion, most of them pretty powerful. Figure out which ones are must haves and get them.. Like, yesterday.. Many classes previous chest pieces are worth carrying around because they are on seperate timers from current ones, as well.

With some searching or asking, your class forums can potentially tell you everything you need to know about DPS'ing with your class.

To start off here, I just want to say thanks Zaaqen for spearheading this topic.  This is something I've wanted to take on for a long time now, but time constraints with other FL related activities always put it on the back burner. 

From our recent discussions in game, we're on the same page with our desire to see individuals optimize their DPS potential by educating themselves, and talking with others for tips/tricks of the trade so to speak.  You're also in tune with the importance of ADPS/Debuffs and the large overall impact they have.

I've added a few thoughts below to help kick this off with a reply!

We should probably establish some sorta communication for debuffs, to prevent overlap/overriding of same class/spell debuffs, as well as to inform other classes that a prior buff is in, and landing theirs is more likely etc.  We can direct the comm traffic to FLRaids, as it's central to where everyone is.  I'd prefer not to add another channel strictly for debuffs.


Beneficial Debuffs

Lots of mobs self buff themselves, be it with haste or other stat enhancement lines.  Removal of these lines helps reduce our damage intake and can aid in landing other debuffs.

Off the top of my head here, could be other classes, but both Rangers and Monks have the ability to remove beneficial buffs from mobs (1-2 slots at a time).  These are older spell/clicky lines, which may have been improved.

DPS Parsers

There are a few regulars with Freelance that parse and post the top 10-12 performers each event in our channel.  However, I'm a big believer that EACH individual should be parsing their own personal DPS on every event we do at a minimum.  By doing so, you establish a baseline, and as you adjust your DPS techniques, you'll be able to compare results with prior runs.

There are several flavours of parsers out there, but Gamanerns GamParse is robust and easy to use.

Here is my poor man's method of multibind.  I like the flexibility it gives me to change cast order on the fly, since I swap different spell sets in an out depending on the occasion.

It does generate a bit of spam, but I can generally ignore that by shoving the spam into non-critical windows.

True multibind is definately cleaner, but this is a good option for those not ready to dig into key bindings.

This method of binding can get me up close to 1 click per 4 seconds.  My goal is 1 click every 3 seconds, but I have a few tweaks before I can hit that number.

This is really stretching for debuff, but wiz can debuff -12 to fire and cold with Staff of Elemental Flux.  Quested item.

Tossing in my 2 cp here, aimed at melee dps classes.

-Buffs-

Unity - Shaman. If no Shaman around, get Mammoth's Strength from a Druid.

Predator/Strength - Ranger. (Brells will block Strength, so click it off before asking). If no Ranger, get Verve from a Beastlord. If no Bst, use teh click from Shrunken Goblin Head Earring.

Haste (duh) - Enchanter is best, but Shaman/Beastlord works if no Enc.

Don't forget your Overhaste and + Atk clickies.

Burning teh Boss down

When it comes time to burn, your discipline useage/timing is critical, along with group makeup.

Added the specifc link under monk forum (Will re-organize that when we have more class specific stuff so it's easy to follow)

I will be adding stuff about group make-up and attributeable DPS in the next day or 2, anything that can be added by anyone would be appreciated, especially on the melee side of things. I know a lot of the beneficial stuff, but since I'm a caster, I obviously focus my attention there.

Edit: I also want to get every buff that every class should try to get before each event eventually. So again, Ive got a good idea, but any help is greatly appreciated.

Suggestion for bards:  If you use the Funeral Dirge AA, please announce it in the flraids:raids or flcc:cc channel.

For those who don't know what this is, it's delayed DD bards can do.  The only problem is that it doesn't stack, so we usually announce it so there isn't a wasted use of the AA (re-use timer can be a bit long, even with the Hasten AA for it maxed).

So many times I see melee stand there and just die when all they have to do is back out and wait for a heal.

Unfortunately, despite doing almost 0 damage for a good portion of the fight, I made Pallorax parse when I died more than once (first at 80%) (Same one Furro made parse on). Hopefully this thread will help prevent that from ever happening again.

My suggestion, about the bard:

Quick time = increase the attack 908 [for me :) ], duration 3 mins, reuse 15 mins
Cacophony = stun [interrupt the spell] + dot 1800 [critical 3600], reuse 6 mins

(For group)
I always Third Spire + Fierce eye (1 min 1 sec) + quick time for 1 set. After Fierce eye faded, then use blade of Vesagran ( 1 min 40 sec)

I added Quick Time to adps section. Though I agree that Cacophony should be in here somewhere it doesn't actually belong in any of the current sections, lol. I will edit it in as soon as I figure out where to put it.

Heya all, most of the groups I'm in,  the shaman doesn't clik his epic at all, or very rarely, I use all my discs on the bosses, and I watch to see if Funeral Dirge is on the mob before I cast, and if it is I wait, just need shammies to keep up their epic cliks and drop them together for maximum dps each fight.

Gruber Lively Crescendo - Large Mana regen, 45 second recast (Your casters will love you for this)
Kaerra's Spirited Crescendo - Lower form of Gruber's Lively Crescendo, I believe they can be scattered to further increase mana regen (please let me know if they are on the same timer or not)
Spirit of Vesagran - (Epic Clicky (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=33054)) - Spell and DoT Crit Chance + Accuracy

I had planned on linking to all of the different spells/aa's and forgot to when I first did it and hadnt got back around to them.
I should have made it into a table to begin with. I just plain didn't think about it.

I altered the text size of each individual class because I found it hard to differentiate between the classes and the next section of the post and added bard 2.0 link back in, but otherwise left it as you posted it.

Here is my list of emotes for various attibutable DPS abilities.  I included cast and fade messages.  I suggest loading these into your GTT.  Not everyone announces when they hit you with something juicy

Also, I would include instructions to yourself in the Trigger text.  This will differ from class to class.

For example, when I see Shm Epic I trigger text DISC - SHM epic (1 min) - Click BA/DA/BGA and Glyph  You trigger text will be different.

Something for people to do is invest in obtaining a Circle of Power clicky.  The use of Circle of Power can improve DPS by a significant amount especially if used it in rotation.

Crystalline Spear (WAR RNG BRD ROG BST) - Old Man McKenzie in PoK for 63 McKenzie's Special Brew (Need to complete Vox Raid.

Dark Spiritbone Belt (WAR PAL RNG SHD MNK BRD ROG BST BER) - Drops in Relic from group quest named but apparently very rare.

Empowered Lantern (WAR PAL RNG SHD MNK BRD ROG BST BER) - Drops from Empowered Reflection in Brell's Temple.  Can also drop as a random zonewide rare from any trash mob in the zone.

Silvery Two Handed Axe (WAR PAL RNG SHD BER) - Old Man McKenzie - 42 McKenzie's Special Brews.

For shammy debuff, you can add Healing Counterbias

1: Decrease Attack Speed by 75%
2: Increase Disease Counter by 16
3: HoTT:  Increase Hitpoints v2 by 1647 per tick for RK II (1733 per tick for RK III)

Though I appreciate the input, the only reason Im not adding this is because the slow does not actually stack. That's not to say whether shamans should or should not use this spell on raids, it just doesn't stack with the longer duration, same percentage AA slow.

I know this is more general purpose dps thread, but here is a composite snapshot of dps hotkeys for bst.  I'm open to suggestions to improve these.

The idea is to tie all my spam spells to 1 key and all my special combat attacks to another, so I can just toggle between 2 keyboard keys to fire stuff off like a roman candle.  (Tie these to keyboard.  Lag affect key presses less than mouse clicking, imo.)

I have a separate defensive key, which launches a combination of things.  (If you ever see me tank for 12 seconds or so, it's because I hit this key.)

I have 2 separate burn keys.  1 is most suited to group burn, when coordinting with rangers, shm, etc.  The other is more personal burn, but it helps to stack a few things together into one button.

Any bst out feel free to offer suggestion to improve this, or let me know if something is confusing.

A few suggestions and additions.

I highly suggest having a couple of the spells currently listed only in the "debuff" column also moved to the "attributable dps" column.  Including but not limited to:

Druid's STV line
Mage/Shm Malo line (NOT the aa version as it is pathetic compared to the spell)
Necro's Scent line
Enc tash line
(any I may have missed)

These spells actually make for some pretty huge attributable damage and their highest versions should be cast on every encounter without question (both because of their debuff components and their increased damage components).

ALL casters:
Acute Focus of arcanum (AA)
1: Decrease Spell Resist Rate by 35%
2: Limit: Max Level(85)
3: Limit: Combat Skills Not Allowed
4: Limit: Spell Type (Detrimental only)

This is extremely important.  I can't stress how large of a difference this AA makes.  It can easily be the difference between getting a mob debuffed in 5 seconds, or not getting fully debuffed (at all).

Necros:
Also have an older debuff line that ended with Scent of Terris that stacks with the newer Scent of Doom.  It got made into an even better version as an AA in HoT.

Rogue:
Instruction in Toxicity:  single target poison overfocus (20% at rk2).  Nice to slap on a nec pre-engage /grin

Shaman:
Putrid Decay (lvl 66, disease -200) - Decreases poison/disease resists by 55. Overwritten by necromancer Scent of Gloom line.  Even though this doesn't stack with necs debuff, it's great to get on the mob early because of its good resist check.

Enchanter:
It should be noted that enchanter's twincast aura now works on DoTs as well as nukes.  When a dot is "twinned" it hits for double the base damage for the entire duration of the dot.  In otherwords, the caster should not refresh this specific dot until it has fully run its course or the caster will actually lower their dps.

Bard:
I saw you weren't mentioning spires, but I thought I would just mention anyway that bard 2nd spire adds base dmg to spells (though it was heavily nerfed quite some time ago).

As a dps caster I feel that it is important to mention that, currently, the bard attributable dps contains mostly only melee enhancements.  It should also include:

aria of the composer:  Adds set overfocus for spells as well as melee overhaste.  This is extremely powerful since it is not a variable foci and it stacks with worn foci.  Also, aura should never be played over aria.  Aria is the single largest dps enhancement a bard can play for caster or melee and using aura instead is selling yourself short (less overhaste and less overfocus from aura vs. aria).

Arcane Chorus:  This adds a proc to all dmg spells cast and is good also for both melee and casters

Fatesong of Fergar:  adds dmg to cold dds

Sotor's Aria:  adds dmg to fire dds

Lyrin's Psalm of Potency:  adds dmg to magic dots (despite in game description, it is only for magic based dots)

If you are in a caster group with a bard, be aware of which of the above spells benefit you most (along with what was listed originally).  A good example of what a wizard would want out of a bard would be: aria of the composer, fatesong, sotors, mana regen, and Arcane chorus (as long as no enchanter is around since it doesn't stack with MR).  Necros do not benefit from the 2 dd songs and so would rather that Lyrin's was in.  Either way, stuff like war march isn't really useful to a caster group.

The whole deal really needs updated to the relevant HoT versions of the spells already listed, too.


For Necros wanting to improve their dps or even just wanting to ensure they are doing everything correctly, there is a newer thread on necrotalk that breaks it down really well and I would recommend all necros to read here: http://www.necrotalk.com/showthread.php?t=11540

I could do a writeup of essential necro aas, foci, spells, clickies etc.  But it would really be faster and laid out better if you just poke around Necrotalk.com.  If you poke around the forums and look at stickies most of the questions you could possibly dream up are answered pretty thoroughly.  I also highly suggest you subscribe to NT.  I do and it is very much worth the small fee.  It opens up an extra forum with some pretty good info on the class.

Either way, if you are a necro especially, feel free to ask me anything at all in game.  Chances are that I can answer any questions you might have--if I can't, I can tell you where to find the info.

p.s. I realize zaaq is afk, I'm not trying to sound like a butt for stuff not being updated to HoT  :P

One thing I've noticed playing various classes is groups get spread out so you're too far to receive adps & group heals. Maybe group leaders could group mark healers (or someone) in the group so the group can see them and stack up closer so everyone receives adps and heals?

This is still a major problem for Freelance.
For instance, on Zlandicar, your IOG is 200 range, so you shouldn't stand at the top of the ramp when your group is on the opposite side of the room from you. You're doing a big disservice to your group members and to the raid. If you need to be at the top of the ramp for raid mechanics reasons, be sure to move into range of your group to hit IOG before moving away please.

When ADPS classes aren't within range when they activate ADPS and it hurts the raid's overall DPS and makes these raids take much longer, and make them tougher as well.

I made a suggestion last year, but no one has commented. Group leaders can mark the healer or someone else important in the group with /mark 1, making them more visible for group members to converge on so everyone is within range for ADPS and heals.
