Brief Event Overview & Strategy

This event involves Wither and Decay bosses, oozes that target players, and types of Withering debuffs which hamper performance.

Follow MA calls, as focus our DPS against Wither or Decay depending on which incarnation it is.  Transitions can be their regular names Wither and Decay or:
[ Wither/Decay ], Fearing the Next Transition
[ Wither/Decay ], Prepared to Die

Withering debuffs are one of the main mechanics in this event.  Which debuff you get has something to do with your distance in relation to x/y boss and/or in the case of tanks and Withering Physicality debuff, whether you're currently tanking Wither boss (highest aggro).  Other factors are also in play which can alter these mechanics (details in sub-section Withering Debuffs).

It's possible to have more than one debuff at a time.  All debuffs persist through death.  Debuffs increase in intensity over short periods (ranks 1 through 10).

When a GREEN form boss dies, all your debuffs are removed.

Three types of Withering debuffs appear to be in play for this event:

Withering Physicality   - Bad for tanks (take more damage)
   - Lands on you when tanking Wither boss (highest aggro).

Withering Limbs   - Bad for DPS (do less damage)
   - Lands on you when in close proximity to Wither boss.

Withering Life   - Bad at higher ranks, DD + DoT scales up (X = 92k DD + 92k DoT, 18s)
   - Lands on you when far away from Wither boss.  This can change, details in sub-section Withering Debuffs

So, as you can see above, handling which debuff you have/get is a balancing act.  For example, as a DPS, you cannot solely just range DPS the entire time, because at a distance, you'll get Withering Life, DD+DoT; that scales up and will kill you.  In close range, you'll get Withering Limbs, that reduces your DPS by 100% in short order.  If you're part of the Wither MTO, once you tank Wither, you'll get Withering Physicality debuff and in about 45s-60s, you'll die from melee damage.

Tanks:

Oozes:

When targeted by an ooze (Vomit aura), run north immediately, and let the ooze catch you there before returning to the raid.  When the ooze catches you, it turns big and remains stationary.  Anyone in the ooze gets hit by an aura AE.  You must react fast to this emote, as the ooze pops almost immediately when you're targeted.

Ooze notes:
- Try not to hang out at the north campfire unless you're emoted.
- Don't stand in oozes (we have a trigger to help with this, 3rd person view helps too).
- Oozes can path weird and get stuck.
* Rez'ing:  /corpse your target before you rez, to avoid rezzing someone into an ooze aura DD.

Withering Debuffs

Spell Details:

Withering Physicality (http://www.raidloot.com/Spells.aspx?name=withering+physicality)   [ I - X ]   - Increase Hit Damage Taken by 5% (rank I) to 2560% (rank X)
         - Targets current tank on Wither (highest aggro).

         - Example on 3rd person: Overeasy's bones are brittle.
         - Example on 1st person: Your bones are brittle.
         - Example off: Your bones are no longer brittle.

         - Emote 1st person: Wither tells you, 'Wither will splinter and brittle your bones! I'll laugh in pure joy at the sound of your groans!'[/i]

Withering Limbs (http://www.raidloot.com/Spells.aspx?name=Withering+Limbs)   [ I - X ]   -  Decrease Spell & Hit Damage by 10% (rank I) to 100% (rank X)
         - Targets players close to Wither boss.

         - Example on 3rd person: Evilash's muscles atrophy.
         - Example on 1st person: Your muscles atrophy.
         - Example off: You regain your musculature.

         - Emote1: Wither says 'Not enough piggies nearby to make a full eight? I'll have to speed up their atrophying fate!'
         - Emote2: Wither says 'Wither spies eight little piggies nearby. Little piggies' limbs will atrophy!'

         Notes:
Emote1 above suggests periodical check for eight players nearby, else Limbs scaling interval increases.

Withering Life (http://www.raidloot.com/Spells.aspx?name=withering+life)   [ I - X ]   - 1k DD + 1k DoT (rank I) to 92k DD + 92k DoT (rank X)
         - Targets players far away from Wither boss.

         - Example on 3rd person: Mulila ages prematurely.
         - Example on 1st person: You age prematurely.
         - Example off: You regain your youth.

         - Emote1: Wither says 'Off in the distance, Wither spies innocent youths. Age will take you early, young fools.'
         - Emote2: Wither says 'No youths in the distance to feel their lives wither? The close ones will do just as well, if not better!'

         Notes:
Emote2 above suggests periodical checks for x players distance
to Wither boss.  If player threshold not met, reverse the mechanic
and target players with Life debuff that are close to Wither boss.

Under the Flag & Key Requirements section, you have it as "Mirror Fragment of Anashit Sul is not required", but it is listed as the keyword to enter the instance.

Just a side note before I forget:
- This raid is buggy when you wipe, tanks need to zone out/back in instead of just laying around in hover mode waiting for a rez. Ae taunt and Ageless enmity will not work if you do not zone, which are two very important abilities in this particular raid -
- Unflinching attention WILL NOT give you highest agro. Stop relying solely on this ability for tank swaps as once it fades, wither will go right back to the previous tank and screw thier timer and more than likely kill them -
- this raid relys on adept and responsive tanks - Check my Warrior post out Here (http://forums.eqfreelance.net/index.php?topic=2973.0) For tips or just ask me in game.
- On a swap call, Pop flash of anger, ageless enmity then phantom agressor. If ageless is down hit AE taunt, If both of those are down hit warlords grasp and hope a taunt is successful before grasp fades. If you didn't get a taunt in before grasp faded, pop Unflinching before grasp fades and hope taunt will be successful! While grasp/unflinching are on use all agro abilities ~ Use the hate meter/Target window to see who is top agro to know when you have true agro, or Don't.

I wonder if it would be better to range Decay and melee/stay close to Wither. If he increases the level of his debuffs when he doesn't have enough in range. Or when melee are on Decay, have casters/priests keep close to Wither to get the Limbs debuff and keep it from leveling up.

I noticed a couple of times on the latest raid that the slime would be triggered when I was not near it, but I think my pet might have been. One was aimed at me while I was calling someone back, and I finished casting, then ran to campfire, and it went to where I was calling and triggered. The second one followed me to campfire but triggered before reaching me. Both times seemed shorter than the usual time it takes to auto-trigger.

It could be, but I'm not sure.  What I do know though, from making the same mistake myself a few weeks ago, is that delaying after being emoted to finish a cast is a sure fire way to fail the emote.  There seems to be a very small window to react, certainly less than six seconds and definately less than 10-12 seconds of normal warning usually associated with emotes of this nature.

Updated the strategy post related to the ooze emote:

Updated ooze trigger action instructions.

Optimized the triggers.

Last night we tried dpsing Decay first then Wither.  It appeared we got both to 50% initially MUCH faster.  Can help us in getting event done prior to timer elapsing.

Getting better. excellent job on dropping them before timer was up.

Tanks - good job on the tank swap chain. very appreciated.

lets have a repeat performance! if we get fast enough on dropping them we can start looking at the /ach's

I changed the trigger for the vomits to show when next vomit is coming, and to give a 3 second warning to back away from Decay.

Thanks Raccoo.  I changed decay to boss, and giving the trigger a try for our next run.

We have to be careful, when we're doing the one /ach where we need x people to stay near each boss, we wouldn't want them backing away.  Unless of course they were actually ooze targeted (which is a different emote).  Anyway, just mentioning it here, as others may be reading it as well, so a reminder to all!

We won't want to do the vomit and the keep 8 near each boss at all times at the same time, as it would be almost impossible to do the vomit /ach with people near Decay at all times.

The vomit one just requires the trigger roco has, where you time out each time a vomit is about to spawn and back away from decay a tic before the vomit spawns, and the person who is emoted runs to a designated location, or we use geometry to our advantage and force the blobs to grow big away from the person it's chasing.

Good Morning FL'ers.

positioning is going to change the next time we do this raid.

1. Both Wither and Decay will be stacked at the ramp coming down from upstairs (previously where decay was alone.)
2. casters/range/healers that will NOT be under the pile will be on the west wall rocks. please be shrunk as far as you can be - we need to fit alot of people up there.
3. oozes last attempt seemed to go after the ranged people (casters) and none landed on the melee pile.  we are putting the casters so far away from the mobs so that the oozes will never reach them - for this, you can stay on the rocks and nuke to hell and back and the ooze should never touch you - ignore the run away emote (at least for now).
4. due to the stacking - melee will not have to move far to switch mobs - but you will likely end up with withering limbs 10. suck it up.
5. we need 8 on each aggro list and under the mobs at all times - meaning we will start the event with that minimum + more with auto attack on. tanks that are first up on the mto - you better be on top of your aggro on event start and stop them from killing a dps member. move the mobs slowly to the pile position so that we do not out range our 8 under them.

last week we had severe issues with push. stop it. the tank that is currently tanking is in charge of the positioning. keep the mobs on top of each other.
please learn your abilities, if it has a push component. stop casting/using it for this fight. - if you are unsure, please post the name of the spell and we can look it up before the attempt. if it has a push component, and you are found to continue using it and you are not the current tank - removal from raid for wasting our time is a likely outcome.
if a mob is out of position, yell for the tank to put it back with the tank channel or flraids channel. do not attempt to re-position it yourself, overcorrection will just screw it up further.

last week doing this - even with the fucked up pushes - we were 1m17s off the enrage timer.  - without the push, we can do better. if we can gain another 2 minutes we can attempt the kill the wrong one a couple times.

lets do this.

Gima, the new positioning for Wither/Decay seems to be working very well.  The vomits are not popping on the melee range folks which is great!

As this strat is continued the only minor suggestion I can see is with were the fire is placed.  If the fire is placed closer the the ramp coming down into the pit then there are places where the casters can stand on the ground and have LOS and the vomits will never reach them in addition to standing on the rocks.

If W/D are at the fire being used now or slide over to the ramp...the vomits should still be getting no further than the bridge or just past the bridge in the middle as they move to the casters.

Since there is no need to move the bosses to avoid vomits anymore having the fire moved a little might make LOS easier for casters.

But either way, the stacked tanking seems to be working very well! Nice job!  Hope to see that All Retch and No Vomit ach fall soon!

Continuing the updated strat and achievement goal posts - here we are at Wither and Decay.

The strat has changed since initial inception. Where we used to tank them separated and run away with the oozes, this is no longer.  Now Wither and Decay are tanked on top of each other in one static location.

The reason for this change is two fold - it lets us have 8 under them at all times for The Crazy Eight Achievement, and it limits the movement of melee migrating from one mob to the other when the MA target changes.

While the mobs are stacked in one location with the melee, the ranged/casters are subsequently stacked on the rocks across the room. A side effect of this split of the melee pile and the range pile is that the oozes go after the ranged folks 100% of the time.  The travel time of the oozes and the hangup of the bridge in the middle of the room causes them to expand well away from people.  This prevents damage from the oozes, and pretty much guarantees us the All Retch and No Vomit Achievement.

Due to the above, once you have started the fight in one pile or the other - you stay there. Don't move from the melee pile to the range pile and DEFINITELY DO NOT move from the ranged pile to the melee pile.  If you start in the range pile and move to melee, you are likely to cause an ooze to target you and drop it on the melee.  Also, due to the oozes going after the ranged pile, you are safe to delete your 'run away' trigger for an ooze targeting you.  If you are in the melee pile, get under the mobs - not a few feet away, not halfway across the room, not on the ramp. Be under the mobs, or be with the ranged. This fight is under 15 minutes, you can manage to stay put for that long.

Achievements: Third Time's the Charm, All Retch and No Vomit, The Crazy Eight
Third Time's the Charm - kill the wrong mob (red one) twice in a row before finishing event. When we do this, the first two mobs to die will be the wrong ones. Follow MA.
All Retch and No Vomit - Don't let the ooze damage you. See below.
The Crazy Eight - Have 8 people on aggro for each mob and under them at all times. see below.

For the All Retch and No Vomit - Do NOT cross the center of the room for any reason. The oozes are going to be in the middle, and you will fail us this achievement. This one is a gimme - literally stay put in your pile and we get this one.

For The Crazy Eight - all melee that will be under the mobs during the fight should get on the platform with auto attack on while targeting one of the two mobs. This will get you on the aggro list immediately on engage.  The first check for this is within a couple seconds from engage.  Follow the mobs to the fight location staying within melee range at all times. Tanks - Do not move the mobs too quickly, we need to keep people under them. Range, please wait until mobs are at the fight location/MA call before going balls out.
