Freelance Ramblings / Collection items
« on: June 30, 2016, 06:23:36 PM »

So the offer that I mentioned in chat once:

Let me know some collection pieces that you need (please don't state things like all of TBM or such as that is too much work for me).  Send me an in-game email with a reasonable number of specific items and I will check to see what I have.  I am also doing this for my wife's old guild that I had joined, so want to spread it around an option.
===

My account is paid up for about 9 months still.  I have a bunch of collections items (I use 3 x 300 spot houses and some bank storage).  I will likely turn my main system into a Linux box with a bunch of VMs, so no EQ there and I won't dual boot as I want some of those servers up.  But, I did set up a Windows partition on my MAC laptop back when they started banning use of VMs (VM Ware fusion for that system).  I rarely boot into it as it was only for EQ and all my real stuff is on the MAC.  But, I can periodically check it.

I had to move the pieces that I had been storing in a house I set up for my wife to the bank as her account should be expired by now or very shortly.  If there was enough interest, I could modify my Python script that I wrote to parse the inventory and realestate output files to check the new locations to produce a current summary.  I could post that to help people know what I have.  I used to do that for the guild when they used to have a web site with forum.

2 x cost.  Sounds like Furro's class or race tax is in effect. Working as intended?

I just always assumed that "click skull" was Canadian for "run into aura".  I mean as Weird Al says, they think curling is a real sport. :-)

Server Locked is no excuse for missing raids.

I have had certain uploaded files also get saved as ZIP.  All I did was to set GINA filter to - All files - when trying to do the import.  Renaming the file to end in the expected GINA extension may also work.

6
During the last attempt last night, I got the Curse of Health once from what I found in the logs.  That matches up with me seeing the emote. When I got the emote I ran to the aura.  While I was waiting for it to fade, the aura moved.  I caught up to the aura and the curse faded when I was in the aura.  The logs also appear to show me exploding and causing damage to people during that time. Most of the time that I had the curse, I was in the aura, so the most time that I could have been healed, I was in the aura.  It may have been me that healed me and I tried not to do it until it faded, but might have done it when I was in the aura.

Also, if the AE happens when it fades or when healed, this can cascade if not really careful.  Four people with debuff and one gets healed triggering the AE. As a result healers may quickly try and heal group out of instinct.  If one of that group also had the debuff ... . This part does not seem fun.

Also, as far as the GINA screen message, you may have to change the length of the lines for the overlays.  Mine cut off around the 2nd name.

As far as the Holistic Health debuff, someone said the data stated that it was unlimited number of targets.  I believe that is the case based on the logs.  There was at least one time that it was cast on 50 people

50 lines of
Anashti Sul, Lady of Life begins to cast a spell. <Holistic Health>
followed by
50 names in the list
Anasthi Sul grants holistic health to her assailants: name1, name2, ...

Most times it hit less than 50.  So, I do not think avoiding it so that real DPS can get it is an issue.  It does not seem that that will cheat a real DPS from also getting it.  I expect the best reason for avoiding it is if the person will not be DPSing at all and wasting time to go to the aura is an issue.

Healing was really easy when just the boss was up.  What hurt us was adds.  The ones due to not curing we should be able to almost eliminate. (I almost didn't get cured once as I got that really impressive snare just as I turned to go to aura. I was thinking I might have to gate to avoid it but did make it.)  The golems also really hurt. The longer that they are up, the more AE damage that we take and people die.  Given the frequency of Holistic Health, I don't know that we really should keep DPSing boss when golem is up. If you have a limited number of dots loaded and have Golem fully dotted, then hitting boss shouldn't hurt, but I expect that we need those Golems dead ASAP. Especially before that other named pops.  It would be nice to know where to run for the one emote.  I did die due to "you have been slain by name" and I expect that was one of those targeted AEs.  Maybe run into the tunnel a few feet?  Unless people go there to med.

Well, I was home today to take care of wife.  Game responded reasonably before lunch then was unreachable.  Then tried a bit ago and got on.  Only to have varying lag until disconnected a couple min ago.  No idea what it will be like at raid time.

Saw a post pondering DDoS when I did get to forums.  No luck getting back to forums in a while and cannot fully log in.  Got the enter password screen a couple times, but fails after that.

Will probably give up for the night in a bit.

EQ connectivity issues:

From their web site (the couple times that it actually loaded)

===
We are currently investigating reported issues with connectivity both in-game and on our websites/forums. Thank you for your patience.

Working on a quantum link to bypass the network issues as I know Furro does not accept network issues as a reason for not raiding.  The physics will take a while.  Or maybe it will start working well again. Had a few times where network traffic between Comcast and Sony had issues. Was on before the issue until the connection dropped.

They posted that issues have been fixed immediately replied by someone that they were not.  I am still out.  In fact, I cannot log into the SoE Forum to post as I get a server error.

FYI banner from SOE EQ forums:

Status: 1/15/2015 16:14 PST - We are currently investigating a potential issue with network connectivity to the game.

--

I don't know if it affects everyone, but seems to be affecting our household.  Of course, we are on Comcast and there have been networking issues between Comcast and SoE a few times when others are working.

Update:  Banner disappeared from EQ forum page, but still cannot connect at 7:34 EST. (4:34 PST).

As you know, the aura from the totems affects heals as well as rezzes.

Also, there is something else at play that I did not see in the writeup.  I don't recall it hitting me Friday night as I healed from a distance with no issues.  But Saturday, I was very frequently summoned or popped to boss (much like Chapterhouse) and then got the you must reposition yourself emote.  Snared and having to move away got me killed a bit as I ran into something or was hit by something on way away from boss.  I was low on HP, but needed to leave the area to avoid the 145K DD.  Even fading or deaths did not stop me from getting popped to boss.  I don't know what was different between Fri and Sat.

Other than having the tanks live through the totems and whatever was yanking me to boss, that first part wasn't too bad once we got the adds down.

This seems like something we should easily handle.  So far the issues that I have noticed.

1) Not understanding/following the emotes / trigger messages - Last run looked much better.  The trigger message of check for LoS buff was misleading to some but, I think people got it last run.  The effects do not appear to be LoS based.  What was meant by the trigger message is to look for the effect icon in your effects window.  If you see it, you are still in an area to be affected.

2) Miss on tank swap - This seemed to happen once the week before Christmas.  I ended up with Vito's killing blow that according to our writeup was a tank swap failure.  I don't think we got one of these last week. so we were better.

3) Non-full raid - We still lack flags to get a full raid in.  The extra DPS and healing should really help and it won't be long before we have full raids.

4) Tank swap and repositioning - Even this last week, we were a bit slow on the tank swap repositioning for one swap.  We need to make sure that he gets back into solid position prior to the next emote.  We still did fairly well, but when he keeps moving a bit, it makes us keep watching him to make sure we are ready for the next emote.  This takes a bit of concentration away from the tasks at hand and can hurt.

This leaves the main issue we had last time:

5) MT death - This is a real bad thing for us.  This causes new MT to try and take agro and then get into position.  Since we are burning from the start, it also means that some DPSs may die before the next tank can grab agro.  This is even worse if it happens during an emote or just before an emote.  Healing seemed rather easy when we were not moving.  In fact, I could cast a dot or debuff between two heals.  The part that we may have to concentrate most on is healing during emote movement. The first week we did this we got three stay away from his right side emotes in a row.  That meant less movement and more solid heals.  However, every time an emote caused us to move, ALL the healers are moving around the same time.  We likely need the fastest possible heals during those moves and heals from everyone who can heal to make up for the fact that every healer is moving.  The more people healing around that time, the better as not everyone moves at the exact same time due to letting a spell finish or checking mob placement before moving.  This will give us a better chance at the gap between heals being small enough to keep the tank alive.

Others may have other observations or thoughts

During boss, mage in group seemed to get Dagger of Reprisal http://lucy.allakhazam.com/spell.html?id=48008&source=Live most of the time.  I would cure and would get it again soon after.  I noticed I resisted it sometimes when casting debuff dot on boss.  I didn't check to see if it was only done at range or not.
