Freelance Ramblings / An Apology
« on: September 01, 2017, 06:03:09 PM »
Last night I accidently looted a Greater Essence rather than a Median Essence.  I started raiding with Freelance on September 1, 2012, exactly five years ago and during that time I never incorrectly looted an item .  I'm not sure who's Greater Essence I took, but please know I am truly embarrassed and sincerely apologize for this stupid mistake.

Freelance Ramblings / My Absence
« on: November 28, 2014, 06:18:11 PM »
Hello friends, sorry I've been away from EQ for a bit.  As Furro would say, my priorities are not set correctly so I guess I need a "priority adjustment" LOL.

I've been traveling a ton, 58,000 miles just in November, but I now expect to be spending a few weeks at home so I will be busting my ass to level up to 105 and will get back into raiding.

I wish you all safe journeys and look forward to seeing everyone again soon.

Since during raids I live most of my life assisting our MA (gotta love Curmugly’s voice hehe) I am not used to having specific targets assigned to me, but I guess the tanks are used to it.  Anyway, on the past PoW attempt, Furro assigned two mobs to me and Sunlace with something like:

Sunlace, Tmon – a_rallosian_warbute00,01

I didn’t quite understand the 00,01 part so I mistakenly created a hotkey /tar a_ rallosian_warbute yes it worked, kinda,  but didn’t work as Furro intended.  I correctly assumed the first warbute (00) was for Sunlace and the second (01) was for me, but I didn’t know how to manage that correctly in a hotkey.

Thanks to Endotron and Curmugly for helping me create the proper key.  I made a hotkey with two lines:
/tar a_ rallosian_warbute00
/tar a_ rallosian_warbute01

If I were Sunlace, then I would have a key with the reverse
/tar a_ rallosian_warbute01
/tar a_ rallosian_warbute00

The way the key is organized, if my mob (a_rallosian_warbute01) is up it will first target Sunlace’s mob (00) then my mob.  If my mob is not up, then it will target Sunlace’s mob, so I can assist and simply ignore the second /tar.  The reverse is true for Sunlace’s key.

This might be common knowledge for the tanks or other classes, but as I said above since my focus in raids is mostly assisting, the concept was foreign to me.  Thank you to Endotron and Curmugly for straightening this out.

Freelance Ramblings / Increase in Item Stacking
« on: September 08, 2014, 05:01:20 PM »
Hello fellow Freelance raiders.  I along with a number of other Freelance raiders attended the SOE Live event in Vegas a few weeks ago.  It was great to meet other players face-to-face and participate in the Everquest open forum discussions to interact directly with the Everquest development team.

During one of the sessions, I asked about increasing the stacking for items like food, drink, player made potions, and merchant purchased potions from 20 to 100.  The entire room applauded my request and the lead developer said I should also post my request on the forums.  So I posted my request, which is linked below, and I am asking any Freelance raiders who might also like to see this request fulfilled please post their feelings/endorsement on my thread.  The more people who endorse this request, the better chance SOE might take notice.

https://forums.station.sony.com/eq/index.php?threads/increase-in-stacking.213472/#post-3123069

Edit: I wanted to add that since so many Freelance raiders are members of guilds, I humbly ask that if you like my request you also post something about this request on your guild forums to try to get your guild mates to also "chime in".  My request is a classic "grass roots" effort, and if there is a chance to motivate SOE to make the change, it will come from the user community.

Very nice Kaloha, yep we used to tear it up back in the day as a hard core raid guild ... I love the FL approach now :) and am grateful to Furro and the other loyal FL raiders for providing a great raid outlet.

Upcoming Events & Strategy / Re: CoTF - Bixie Warfront - Pelzia's Plot
« on: January 31, 2014, 02:32:15 AM »
Tonight there were a few times when we accidently killed the Zzatazz that were meant to be beaten down to about 10% mezzed then killed within 30 seconds of the other Zzatazz.  We have only beaten this event once before tonight and people are still getting acquainted with the event (e.g., trying to develop that “muscle memory”).

When we beat the event the first time, Curmugly was doing a great job giving step by step detailed instructions and vigorously reminding folks to attack certain mobs to a certain level.

Furro, please insist that your MA designate have two types of “assist” keys, one that contains the normal assist type message and the other with a reminder to stop attacking the certain mob to 10% or whatever the kill point is.  People seeing these MA messages will have that messaged “engrained” into their memory.

Yes, someone may say … folks need to pay attention or some other snide comment.  The point here is simple; it’s about high quality communication and using the MA assist message is a perfect opportunity to “remind” folks if a certain mob is to be attacked to a specific level.

Thanks Furro.  I'm in China ATM, tried to connect from my hotel WiFi, but it was not reliable enough to maintain a steady connection.  Looking forward to returning to the US and raiding again with FL next week.  Good luck everyone.

Regarding the Drum rotation, we have a useful trigger that serves to better inform the next person to get ready to click the drum. I propose a slight change to reduce false firing, which occurs with the current trigger search text.

Current Trigger Search Text: GET READY TO CLICK DRUM
Proposed Trigger Search Text: YOURNAME GET READY TO CLICK DRUM

Hotkey:
Line1: /tell Soandso SOANDSO GET READY TO CLICK DRUM
Line2: /tell CLASS_CHANNEL DRUM CLICKED -- SOANDSO NEXT

The purpose of this write up is to share some background from my experience during the drum portion of the event, so if you are called upon to hit the drum as part of a “drum group” or simply called upon to hit the drum to change the song (because of your particular player class), you will have some understanding of the drum portion of the raid.

Jacyll is a bard located in the upper level spherical room.  Go up the stairs and continue upward through the tunnel passage until you reach the spherical room.  The drum in question is Jacyll’s drum, which he is playing before the raid starts.  You can safely go inside the room before the start of the raid.  Jacyll is standing on an elevated platform (a stage) in the center of the room and is surrounded by an hourglass enclosure.  There is a second NPC, Fristo, standing close to Jacyll but outside the hourglass.

The raid starts by speaking with Fristo and then attacking/breaking the hourglass to exposes Jacyll.  Shortly after the hourglass is broken, Jacyll falls unconscious, drops his drum no the floor next him and the song(s) he was playing stop, which triggers the start of the raid battle.  With the hourglass broken, you can ascend the steps onto the stage, stand next to Jacyll and hit his drum to continue certain songs, depending on your player class, which benefit the raid

To bang the drum, you simply click it (left click) one time.  You cannot target the drum, so don’t worry about that, just left click the drum one time.  When you click the drum, you will immediately receive a debuff called Weakness, don’t try to remove it, just leave it alone.  The Weakness debuff will prevent you from hitting the drum again for 3 minutes. When you hit the drum one of four songs, depending on your class, will show up in your short term buff bar (where bard songs show up).  After you hit the drum, your particular song will last for 30 seconds.

For those who are not math challenged, if you consider a six member drum group each playing a 30 second song, you get a total of three minutes.  So by the time we return to the first person in the drum group, the Weakness debuff will be gone and the first person can hit the drum again.  If you are part of a six person drum group, it is important that you do not click the drum until the currently running song is at its end (e.g., when there is 1 second left on the song).  However during the raid there may be times when the “drum leader” will call upon someone outside the drum group or from another drum group to hit the drum "out of group order" and change the song for the benefit of the raid.

Because there can be may be many people in the drum room at the same time, it is recommended that the person who is supposed to next hit the drum be the only person standing on the drum stage; everyone else should be off the stage waiting for their turn.  This tends to help reduce confusion and the anxiety to hit the drum accidently.

Depending on the player class, there are four different songs played on the drum:

Caster - Irregular Drum Beat (Silence Adds - Increases Melee Damage)
Priest - Strong Drum Beat (Cures Pollen plus a One Second Stun)
Melee - Soft Drum Beat (Weakening Enemies – Increased Casting)
Hybrid - Dispelling Drum Beat (Dispels One Buff Slot)

When the drum is hit and by whom, is still being coordinated, but hopefully this provides some helpful background if you are called to participated in hitting the drum.

A minor point, but maybe helpful to others.  The first few raids I could not see the cloud.  Because I run up to 6 chars on my system, I try to squeeze every bit of "power" that I can so I set my graphics low. I had Particles (Spell tab) set to [Near Clip: Near - Density: Off - On For: My spells - Opacity 0%], when I adjusted these settings [Near Clip: Near - Density: Low - On For: ME+NPC - Opacity 30%] I could see the could.

Raider Essentials / Re: Audio & Text Triggers - GTT Program
« on: September 29, 2012, 05:10:29 PM »
Thank you Ssark.  At first glance, GINA appears to be a far superior program compared to GTT, especially when it comes to managing multiple characters and its organizational structure for managing the trigger library.  I have found at least one bug related to importing GTT libraries where the GINA display tree structure gets “out of whack”, but I can live with it for now.  I will try GINA on some upcoming raids.

Edit: After using this program on a few raids, I can attest to the fact that it has a vastly improved way to organize triggers and if you play multiple characters, this is defiantly the program for you.

Here is a link to an old webpage I used years ago as a reference for completing the MPG trials.  I was surprised to see this page up after so many years, so I'm probably going to make a copy of the page incase the person hosting it takes it down.  I always found the format easy to follow.
