Freelance Ramblings / Re: now that freelance is in sep what is next

Borean,

My lack of answering was that I couldn't find any literature or writeup that confirms or denies what you suggest.  And, because we had already done Sep 1-3 by the time I read it, I could not test it myself, because I had the necessary lockouts.

I plan on testing it this week when the lockouts for 1-4 drop off my DZ list to see if I can request Sep 4 or not without having done Sep 1-3, and confirm.  My suspicion is that I won't be able to get Sep 4 without the Sep 1-3 lockouts, but I will test to be sure.

Upcoming Events & Strategy / Re: VoA - Sepulcher 5 - The Triune God
« on: March 09, 2013, 03:19:46 PM »

Excellent run to 26% on Friday night.  Couple of adjusts and map changes for Phase 3.

MAP ADJUST:

Map has changed.  Fonts are larger and darker, and locations of the six gods for Phase 3 are now added.  Please download new map text file, and either replace yours with it, or if you know how, edit the file to add these locations (and remove any old orange relic text files you had):

Map Locations: sepulcher_1.txt

Full Map of the event below.  Light blue section is RAISED LEVEL 2.  Relics are for Phase 1; in Phase 3, we move into northern room.  Triunity is down below, but G2-G5 up top with the six Norrathian gods.

PHASE 3 GOD GROUPS (G2-G5) TACTICAL ADJUSTS:
  • No pets on gods!  Pets ok on Triunity, but they count toward the limit of 12.
  • Off-tanks will be assigned a god, with a roaming backup.  DO NOT OFFTANK DPS GOD.  If your god comes up as the DPS GOD that round, simply revert to backup status.
  • Off-tanks, please read your god's effects (as above).  SUMMON TANK where possible (some snares make this difficult).  Try to angle your god's facing away from DPS/HEALERS if he has a frontal assault AE.
  • Before the gods activate, Shamans and other debuffers MAY LAND non-damaging debuffs onto the Norrathian Gods without getting onto hatelist.  Please attempt to slow each of the gods prior to activation.  Once the god has activated, do not attempt re-buff until next round (when debuffs are likely wiped).
  • Remember, only DPS GROUPS (4-5) may heal the DPS tanks or attack the DPS GOD that round.

Test Patch Notes 3/5/2013
Quote
- "NPC melee combat will no longer cause other NPCs to move. Players can still move NPCs and NPCs can still move players."
from http://forums.station.sony.com/eq/index.php?threads/test-update-03-05-13.4293/

Could this mean... finally... no more... pet push?!?

I'll believe it when I see it.

Also, one of the most challenging RoF-T2 zones is about to get nerfed.  Sorry Darkenvoid:
Quote
- Many changes were made to creatures in Chapterhouse of the Fallen to make the zone more playable.
- - Wandering NPCs will be less restless.
- - Researcher Vespra, rats, and timeworn servants are no longer aggressive towards players.
- - The undead in the caverns have been moved around and their aggro ranges have been reduced.
- - Reduced the aggro range on all oozles and beetles.
- - Removed several NPCs from the caverns to create some safe areas.

Ramelorn,

Thanks for the interest!  According to the thread you linked:

Current Objectives

Rain of Fear - Tier 1 Progression.

Veil of Alaris - Sepulcher Progression

Secondary Objective

Special events like Anniversary raids, Living Legacy for AUGs.

We will continue to progress through Sepulcher (we've won Sep 1-3 as of the time of this writing), so we still have Sep 4-5 to win (and 5 is almost like 2 raids in 1).  And, while we farm Shard's Landing, Kael, and Crystal Caverns raids on a regular basis, we have yet to attempt the final Rain of Fear - Tier 1 raid, Eastern Wastes.  So there is still progression in RoF-T1 yet to do.

As for the other items you mentioned:

a) gear is never really an objective; it is simply a means to help progress through content.  In addition, many casting classes have much less interest in VoA gear, since the focus on these items decays above level 95.  (This is borne out by reviewing the Sep armor drops and seeing who bids on them.)

b) the primary (and nearly sole) reason we were doing VoA-T3 raids was to help progress individuals on the Book of Legends.  However, the number of pigs for the Sepulcher raids has dropped dramatically as of late, because many pigs are now flagged 5/5, and because Sepulcher raids accelerate the flagging process (they count more on the book).  At this juncture, there are no plans to revisit VoA T3/T4 raids.

Our primary focus though at this time is beating Sepulcher and beating Eastern Wastes.  Our secondary goal is farming the events in RoF-T1/Sepulcher 1-3, and this supports our primary focus:  There are hidden flags for Eastern Wastes (reportedly requiring the CC/Kael raids), so we like to do those so as not to have pig issues / campfire Mickey Mouse time when we do EW; and Sep 1-3 are required each weekend so we can get back into Sep 4.

Does that help answer the question, Ramelorn?  PM or /tell me or Furro if not, we'll be happy to chat.

* Just so it's clear, when Frostfox says "we," she means the Circle of Prophets "we."  Because this is the Freelance board, I didn't want someone else who is reading this to be confused.

Raider Essentials / Heroics
« on: February 05, 2013, 10:06:50 AM »
I found this nifty little discussion on (monk) heroics:

http://www.monkly-business.net/forums/showthread.php?t=37883

It's a quaint little discussion on the power gains of hStr, hDex, hSta and hAgi for monks.  But not that's the point I'm trying to make here.

If you read the arguments, it's about 1-2 points of damage here, or 10 hp (out of 100,000), etc.  The gains are so minimal compared to, say, a gear upgrade or a spell/disc rank upgrade, it's really about style and desire imo.  Sure, with more hDex Ssark can riposte more, but on a raid does that really matter?  If I don't even tank in a group because I can't hold aggro (even like a merc tank can), does it matter?  Wouldn't it be better to survive more AEs, blah blah?

I know sometimes there's discussion on heroics and what to go for, but let's not have it at the expense of more important things like having one's epic (in some cases), knowing how and when to burn your disciplines or AA abilities, attacking from the back (if dps), knowing how to do more than just patch heal, which auras it's worth pursuing Rank 2 or Rank 3, etc.

I think having a basic plan for your heroics is good, because every little bit helps, but there are many other things that impact your success more.

Check out this action shot from last night's Danela's Stand raid... (our first win in CC):

And then, soon after...

I think that pretty much says it all.  Careful, if you keep teasing The Hobbit, one day that could be you.

Upcoming Events & Strategy / Re: RoF - Crystal Caverns - Danela's Stand
« on: February 03, 2013, 11:43:50 AM »
Triggers updated mid-raid, then again this morning.  Changes:

MID-RAID last night:

1) Added trigger for "fallen to the ground."
2) Changed trigger for boulders falling to include correct verb (begins instead of starts)

THIS MORNING:

1) Changed trigger for boulders again to remove double-space (this must have been stealth hot fixed!)

Triggers updated above.

GTT updated, same link as above.  NO triggers were added, so delete the old ones and download the file again and import the 3 triggers.

Changes:

  • You are blinded by fear. - Left this in, even though raid is bugged atm with this effect.
  • A boulder  on the ceiling starts to shake - found that there are TWO spaces between "boulder" and "on".    Also changed result to be a 24-second timer urging MA/MT to position Danela under the boulder.  When two or more are falling, there may be overlap, and this may be confusing, we'll see.
  • throws a barrel of dynamite at YOURNAME - Changed result to a 4-second timer, which seems to be the time between the throw and the explosion.  I am not 100% certain if it follows you if you move, but if it does not, if you move quick enough from the spot in 4-seconds you should be safe.  If it does follow you, we might want the raider to move away to a location from others since it is a small AE around him or her
I did not add a "fallen to the ground" trigger as of yet.  It is unclear when the boulder strikes and misses Danela if this trigger will be useful or not at present.

Admit it, this is how you feel on Saturday after raids... like it's Furro's last day... and no more raids all the way until Thursday...

Freelance Ramblings / Freelance Frees King Tormax from a Bloody Nightmare
« on: January 20, 2013, 04:49:22 PM »
Poor King Tormax.  Some crackpot puts a purple crystal up his ass, and suddenly he's more paranoid than a pie in Rivervale.  And we, the Freelance Raid Team, had to live through that nightmare:

  • First, it was The Dain, who is a stinky little dwarf.  Gets dogs and his four heavies to do his dirty work for him.  We put him down.
  • Then, it's Yelinak, a mighty frost dragon.  Some respect here, he packs a nice 100k AE.  Tyranosawr and Snakein combined to interrupt his plans.
  • And if that weren't enough, he dreams of both of these fools at the same time.  Oh, and keep in mind, during the whole event, KT decides that Juddor and Overeasy are at fault, and he's poundin' on them.

But like any good halfling in search of adven... who are we kidding?  pies... we persevere and get 'er done.  Congratulations Freelance!

Yes, Snakein, we won.  :D
