Dead Hills - Xulous Prime
*[10/18/2013] NOTICE: This post has been modified to reflect amendments posted within this thread *

Zone & Instance Info

Gather Zone: The Dead Hills

NPC Name: Templar Gemma
NPC Location: Marked on map

Keyword to Enter: Ready

Flag & Key Requirements

Zone Flag: None
Event Key: None
Group Mission: None
Event Flags:  Ethernere - The Doomscale Horde

* Minimum to be Piggy/85'/pushed into raid: Nothing required.

Brief Event Overview & Strategy

As we deal with Xulous Prime, we are faced with several mechanics:

Xulous Prime randomly target AEs areas with Festering Pustules - 19k DD + 31k DoT (2 minute duration, Disease counters 120!).

For EACH Festering Pustules DoT that fades without being cured a hard hitting penalty ROTTING CORPSE ADD spawns and casts Decaying Flesh - 19k DoT + 5k MANA DRAIN + 3k END DRAIN (permanent effect while the add remains alive).  Rotting corpse adds also cast Festering Pustules DoT.

When Xulous Prime reaches 80%, 40%, 20% HP it targets a player and spawns a disease cloud AURA that follows around the random player target.

Throughout the event, MAGGOTs spawn at ooze locations.  If Maggots are not killed in time, we get Mosquito adds.

* Warning: DO NOT CAST DISEASE ON XULOUS PRIME or it will POWER UP (hit harder) and REGEN HP.

STRATEGY:

Festering Pustules DoT - It's CRITICAL this DoT is CURED before it fades above everything else!

Players targeted by the AURA are to kite in one of the designated kite areas.

Maggots - Tank assigned to each Ooze location to AGGRO outside of melee range of maggots, while assigned direct melee assist to kill and keep maggots dead.

Range DPS (Wizards, Magicians, Necromancers, Rangers) - ALL RANGE DPS ON XULOUS PRIME.

Paladins - Splash to help cure DoT afflicted players and heal.

Bards - Continue to help cure via /rt by assignment.  Add kiters to ETW to monitor for curing DoT.

Everyone please review the positioning diagram further below for kite area locations and other information.

Xulous Prime

Hits for: 30000
Abilities: Single-target Rampages, AE Rampages
AEs:

Toxic Blast - 60k+ DD and knockback/up (Caster PB, 60' range)
Festering Pustules - 19k DD + 31k DoT (2 minute duration, Disease counters 120!)

AURA - Cloud of Disease

Xulous spawns a Cloud of disease at set HP intervals (80%, 60%, 40%, ...) that paths towards a random player.

Anyone caught in the aura is hit by Breath of Xulous Prime - 34k DoT + Spell SLOW + SNARE (The stench of decay renders you weak.)

The aura moves VERY SLOWLY.  If targeted, you can easily move a short distance and turn around to see it coming at you.  This allows for easy kiting within a small area, please take advantage of it.  Leashing the aura to middle is BAD because you get warped to middle along with it (and snared), and other players may inadvertently be caught in it there as a result.

* Visual Effects Note:

Depending on your EQ settings, you may have the visual effects off to show the aura particles.  To turn on, ALT-O for Options, Display tab, under Particles (Spell tab) adjust settings to: [Near Clip: Near - Density: Low - On For: ME+NPC - Opacity 30%]

Rotting Corpse Adds

Penalty add for EACH DOT that fades without being cured in time spawns a "Rotting corpse" add.

The add casts Decaying Flesh - 19k DoT + 5k MANA DRAIN + 3k END DRAIN (permanent effect while the add remains alive).

In addition, the add also casts Festering Pustules - 19k DD + 31k DoT (2 minute duration, Disease counters 120!)

Positioning

  • Oozes marked in GREEN
  • Raid SPREAD OUT (DoT is targeted AE 20' range).
  • Xulous Prime RED position.
  • Multiple Aura Kite locations to deal with multiple auras (80%, 60%, 40%, ...)

Curing Disease

It's not the sole responsibility of your healer to cure you.  There are many classes that can cure disease, and a Distillate of Immunization (1 min refresh) potion cuts the counters in HALF (removes 64 disease counters).

When groups and assigns are made, they're done so with curing in mind for this event.  In other words, each group has 2-3 classes that can cure disease.

Classes other than Druids, Shaman and Clerics that can cure disease:

ClassSpell/AACounters  Cast  Recast  Target
BeastlordEradicate Disease601.25s1.5sSingle

NecromancerEradicate Disease601.25s1.5sSingle
  Embrace The Decay (AA)300.25s5 minsSelf

PaladinSplash of Cleansing23-251s18sTarget Ring AE
  Reverent Purity50-541.75s1.5sSingle

RangerEradicate Disease601.25s1.5sSingle
  Herbal Balm301.5s1.5sSingle

ShadowknightPurity of Death (AA)300.25s18sSelf

MonkPurify Body (AA)??0s30sSelf

Important:

It's important when curing someone not to just blindly cast your spell X number of times based on how many counters it cures.  Look at their buffs when you're curing them.  You don't know, but they may have used a Distillate of Immunization potion, and took that 120 counters down to 56!  So as a Ranger for example, instead of casting twice, you'd only have to cast once.  Saves time.

The same above example goes for classes self curing.  Using a potion or an AA to cut down the counters, then follow up with a few spell casts.  A Necromancer for example can use Embrace The Decay (AA), then use a Distillate of Immunization potion, and remove the last counters with a single cast of Eradicate Disease.

Class that have no ability to to cure can also help by using a potion to cut the counters down and that'll save your group members and/or bard time.

Hotkeys

For classes that cannot cure disease.  You're either assigned a bard (do not ask for a cure from a bard unless assigned), or you ask in group.

Set up a hotkey for these actions to save time.  Include a voice message for the group one.  For example:

/vg 6
/group Cure please!

For those assigned a bard, you don't need the voice, because it's a tell and used to quick target via /rt:

/tell Soandso Cure please!

We took our first look at this event, and got Xulous Prime down to 65% on our final attempt Friday.

This event is similar to the group mission, but of course the raid adds a couple twists.

Event Adjusts
  • Oozes - Positioned in four locations of event area.  Spawn rooted maggots, which if not kept killed will morph/spawn Mosquito adds.
  • AURA (cloud of disease) - Trigger added for player targeted by AURA (begins to form around you).
  • AURA (cloud of disease) - When cloud targets you, KITE it in the AREAS marked on diagram; away from raid.

Trigger Addition - Targeted by cloud of disease

IMPORTANT: Delete ALL Dead Hills - Xulous Prime triggers before you import the new set.

GTT File: cotf-dead-hills-xulous-prime.gtt

Positioning

Diagram removed -- updated version provided in another adjusts post.

The aura switches targets but uses a different trigger.  We believe the 2nd aura that spawns at 60% is changing targets.

4 people agro lock the maggots as they spawn(preferably out of their melee range).

Melee rotate around in a circle killing one maggot after another without fear of agroing/taking damage.

Had another run on Satuday, Oct 12, and made marked improvement, taking Xulous Prime down to 27%.

Some adjusts going forward, and revised our raid positioning (updated diagram included).

Event Adjusts
  • Oozes & Maggots - Tank assigned to each Ooze location to AGGRO outside of melee range of maggots, while assigned direct melee assist to kill and keep maggots dead.
  • Festering Pustules DoT is Targeted AE (20' range).  Everyone SPREAD OUT, but avoid Auras, Prime AE Rampage and Knockback.
  • AURA (cloud of disease) - Additional trigger pattern added for player targeted by #2 aura (A cloud of disease moves toward you).
  • AURA (cloud of diease) - An aura spawns at 80%, 60%, 40% (may be another at 20%).  Multiple kite areas added to diagram
  • AURA (cloud of disease) - It moves VERY SLOWLY.  If targeted, you can easily move a short distance and turn around to see it coming at you.  This allows for easy kiting within a small area, please take advantage of it.  Leashing the aura to middle is BAD because you get warped to middle along with it (and snared), and other players may inadvertently be caught in it there as a result.
  • Bards - Add kiters to ETW to monitor for curing DoT.

Trigger Addition & Changes

IMPORTANT: Delete ALL Dead Hills - Xulous Prime triggers before you import the new set.

GTT File: cotf-dead-hills-xulous-prime.gtt

Note: Trigger addition(s) and alterations have been included in the original strategy post base trigger set.

Positioning

  • Oozes marked in GREEN
  • Raid SPREAD OUT (DoT is targeted AE 20' range).
  • Xulous Prime RED position.
  • Multiple Aura Kite locations to deal with multiple auras (80%, 60%, 40%, ...)

Oozes & Maggots - Tank assigned to each Ooze location to AGGRO outside of melee range of maggots, while assigned direct melee assist to kill and keep maggots dead

Range DPS (Wizards, Magicians, Necromancers, Rangers) - ALL RANGE DPS ON XULOUS PRIME.

Paladins - Continue with your splash efforts to help cure DoT afflicted players.

Bards - Continue to help cure via /rt by assignment.  Add kiters to ETW to monitor for curing DoT.

Note: Strategy post has been updated to reflect our adjusts to date.

Healers should be able to see who needs curing by adding this trigger to GTT/GINA. Obviously, lots of spam is going to result, so you might have to resize the overlay window.

It's up to you whether you want to use the trigger, but as you said it's going to spam quite often.  For example, from last nights attempts:

Note: Xulous Prime casts the DoT every 15 seconds, targeted AE, hitting multiple players.

I have another solution to this DoT issue, I'll do a separate followup adjusts post.

Event Adjusts

We're not getting that DoT cured fast enough obviously, since we're getting Rotting Corpse adds usually around 30%'ish, sometimes sooner.  I've added another trigger to help in this area.

Why another trigger?  You get hit by the DoT, your trigger fires.  It's easy to announce you need a cure and then quickly forget to follow up looking at your effects to see if it has been removed (ie, you ask for a cure, you think you're cured and you continue your role, overlooking the fact that the DoT is still ticking away and eventually fades resulting in a Rotting Corpse add).

This additional trigger will fire everytime you take DoT damage from Festering Pustules.

Trigger Addition

This trigger will fire when you are taking DoT damage from Festering Pustules only.

GTT File: cotf-dead-hills-xulous-prime-addon-dot-dmg.gtt

Note: Trigger addition(s) and alterations have been included in the original strategy post base trigger set.

Eradicate Disease has two slots of "Decrease Disease Counter by 30", so that's 60 counters in one cast of the spell.  Two casts and the DoT is gone.  The spell is available to the following classes: CLR/58 PAL/71 RNG/76 DRU/58 SHM/52 NEC/66 BST/66.

A minor point, but maybe helpful to others.  The first few raids I could not see the cloud.  Because I run up to 6 chars on my system, I try to squeeze every bit of "power" that I can so I set my graphics low. I had Particles (Spell tab) set to [Near Clip: Near - Density: Off - On For: My spells - Opacity 0%], when I adjusted these settings [Near Clip: Near - Density: Low - On For: ME+NPC - Opacity 30%] I could see the could.

Nice work everyone!

Added note to related Aura - Cloud of Disease section of strategy post.  Thanks.

Side note, I have my density set to off and can see aura, however perhaps it's less pronounced visually that way as opposed to on as you suggest.  Either way, my system is old and this works for me.

Just thought I would let you know, the monk abilities you have listed above.

Purify Body is an aa. Reuse timer depends on the aa the monks have, 30 seconds on mend and 2 minutes on Purify Body if you have all the aa's for them.

Edited the related post/areas.  Removed Mend, because it doesn't have a cure component (let me know if incorrect).  I can't find the spell detail for Purify Body, so it's probably a line that was continued over the years and used a different name.  Not critical to know how many counters it cures at this point though.
