Item Distribution Overview

Freelance uses both DKP and Random 1000 to distribute items.  All items are associated with a category, and each category tied to a ruleset; which is used for item distribution.

Current designated expansion AUG, LOOT & RUNE items require 20% Raid Attendance in order to BID/Random on them.  Retro designated expansion items are processed on demand via /random 1000 Ruleset, with normal associated base costs.  With the exception of special earmarked items (quest drops, etc).

N/A category items are distributed via Random 1000 ruleset.

LOOT category items are auctioned off in 3 rounds of open /raidsay bidding, starting at 50 DKP.  Minimum bid increments of 10 DKP at a time.  A player cannot bid beyond their Current DKP holdings.  Following no bids, an OPEN tag is associated and the Random 1000 ruleset is used (no RA needed).

Each "Real Life" person is allowed to participate, winning one AUG, LOOT, RUNE, and N/A item per night.  OPEN items still count as your item in that category for the night, and are available to anyone, including prior winners.   FFA items cost the same as their aforementioned category, but are not restricted to one per "Real Life" person.

Freelance Ramblings / Re: GINA - Workaround for EQ date format bug

Strange that some folks were having issues, while others were not.   I had no issues following the steps GINA posted.  I wonder though, if some users were renaming the config file incorrectly due to Windows hidden file extensions, making the .txt portion invisible.  Or perhaps leaving period on, and just removing the txt portion, which is incorrect as well.

Either way, hopefully GINA can get an update out soon.  I heard it would be sometime this weekend.

Brief Event Overview & Strategy

The skinny, based on group mission run and solo raid attempt.

Waves of adds, each stage goes active once the previous adds are killed (may also be a timer).

Adds are up but inactive at event start.

DO NOT GO NEAR Talendor - Talendor's Incinerating Aura kills instantly.

Kar`Zok adds cast Gust of Atrebe - 55k DD + 9k Mana Drain + 6.5k Endurance Drain (Frontal AE).

Essence of the Dragon I (Group) EoK /achievement grants immunity from: Gust of Atrebe


Virulent Toxin Emote:

RUN AWAY FROM RAID - Return when DoT fades.

Virulent Toxin VIRAL - 75k DoT + SPELL/MELEE SILENCE (24s)


Doomhammer Emote:

When Kar`Zok Warleader Hegron goes active, Doomhammer emote comes into play.

Curing someone with Doomhammer will cause a TARGET AE around the CURER for 150k DD + Knockback + STUN.

Therefore the CURER needs to be AWAY FROM THE RAID before curing target.



Meteor Emote:

Comes into play during veteran adds.

Defender's Shield clicker items drop from adds.  Defender's Shield's have a re-use timer of 115s.   The shield clicker team will have to co-ordinate shield order clicks.

A warning emote fires indicating a meteor appears.  Shortly after, another warning emote about the meteor exploding into several pieces.  10s later, the meteors impact.

BIG RED CIRCLES indicate the impact areas of the meteors.

A Shield Clicker must move to the CENTER of a BIG RED CIRCLE and click their Defender's Shield to create a GREEN SHIELD AURA.

Players MOVE INSIDE THE GREEN SHIELD AURA for protection from meteors.

Failure results in being hit by a Draconic Meteor (200k DD).


Talendor's Fiery Breath - Frontal AE:

From event start, a 10s warning emote fired every 45 seconds.

Talendor's Fiery Breath: 200k DD + 65k DoT (24s)

I purposely placed this trigger into a sub-group folder (toggled on by default), because from my group mission logs, we were getting hit by this DD/DoT, but at the time, we had a lot of other things going on to pay attention to.  The group version of this spell has different range settings as well, not just that the damage differs.

The emote is present in my solo attempt at the raid.

Given that there's a 10s warning emote, perhaps there's a way to avoid it.  For example, perhaps Talendor targets a player and 10s later turns and fires the AE at the direction of the player.  If true, I can't find a personal emote message in my logs about it for the group mission or my solo raid attempt.  I would think for a solo raid attempt I would always be the person emoted.  On the other had, maybe it was a flash on the screen emote only, and I missed it.

Basically, we need to do the raid and get some field data. :D

The trigger will fire on the 10s warning emote.  Then 10s later, it'll follow up indicating that the AE has fired.

What we need players to do is note any possible visuals or if they were personally emoted that seems to relate with the warning emote.  Thanks!

Dragon boss.

Talendor is clearly guarding some pie, with that kind of fire power.

Doomhammer - Emote Mechanic

When Kar`Zok Warleader Hegron goes active, Doomhammer emote comes into play.

DEBUFFS Demystified / Re: Debuff Breakdown - Spells & AA

Just an FYI, they added a Cripple Debuff to Turgur's Swarm (Sham AA Slow) from The Broken Mirror.  The Slow and Cripple are seperate debuffs, but are cast together.  And the slow as been upped to 80% from 75% with the additional TBM ranks.

Very solid first win on this event Saturday.  On the first attempt of the night, we got him to 23% -- A new emote mechanic came into play at around 30%.  We added the new trigger during CR, and took another run at it for the win.  Outstanding work everyone! :D

MA - Kill order: FLAME assaulter adds first, then FROST assaulter adds.  Shields are broken early on Flame assaulters, making them faster to kill first.

Snowblaze - Gaze Emote:

OK.  We're reacting to this gaze emote incorrectly.

We know Snowblaze targets three players, who are then hit by the Freezing Pulse DoT, and Freezing/Frozen Pulse breaks shields on flaming assaulter adds.

We know that each player targeted by the emote has a > FROST RING < around them, to presumably help visually indicate to others they are targeted.

Action: EVERYONE MOVE AWAY FROM PLAYERS WITH A VISIBLE > FROST RING <.

What's happening is, 10 seconds after each of the three players are emoted, a small area around the player is hit with Call of Flames - 197k AE DD + Mana/Endurance Drain 15k/12k + Dispel - 31' range.  This usually kills a handful or so of players (and pets!) who are too close to the FROST RING players.

Snowblaze - Gaze Emote

This was tricky to figure out, because snowblaze is shooting off several emotes, and the Frost shield breaking mechanic easily masked what was really going on at the same time.  The "pillar of flames" portion was throwing me off as well, because I was incorrectly correlating it with the Emanating Flames (orange auras).

Thoughts:

I think this was done by the developers to stir things up a bit.  This requires the raid to react, while the players emoted are powerless (rooted, silenced, and taking DoT damage requiring the raid to heal them).  Snowblaze does the gaze emote every 35 seconds, and therefore the disruption is only 10s or so every 35 seconds.  Enough to cause damage to players not paying attention to the frost rings.  But the 31' range makes it not big enough to kill off half the raid.


Frost & Flame Assaulter Adds

Reverting our kill order back to doing Flame assaulter adds first because Snowblaze does gaze emotes early into the event, and Emanating Flames come into play later (albeit not much later, but we tend to get more gaze emotes before flames).  Since gaze emotes happen early, it results in flame assaulter shields breaking quickly, allowing us to kill them much quicker.


Emanating Flames - Auras

As I said before, I'm almost certain we're handling these orange auras auras incorrectly.  The spell data and the description are saying you take LESS damage while in these auras. 

I believe when players went into the auras previously (myself included), they took damage from > FROST RING < players who just happened to be in the aura as well.  Maybe the Emanating Flame aura locations are based on the last three people gaze emoted, or current emoted.  If the mechanics overlap (gaze emoted players and emanating flames), then to me it make sense that the current players emoted have the Emanating Flame auras pop on them, to prevent the player from dying (ie, they are in the Emanating Flame aura which should do 0% damage at 0' feet), and since they have Freezing Pulse DoT, they are also Rooted.

Emanating Flames    AURA - 219k DD + MANA DRAIN 17k (Range Based Mod: 0% at 0' to 100% at 320')
Effect message 1st person: Flame washes over you, growing stronger as it moves away.

Emanating Flames - Orange Auras - Action: MOVE AWAY / STAY OUT OF THESE AURAS

Kiters & Tanks:

Kiters assigned for each flame assaulter add.  Kite in Counter-Clockwise (CCW) pattern, as indicated in diagram and map.

Assigned tanks for each FROST assaulter add are to tank their adds in raid, as we kill them first.

FROST assaulter add Tanks: When your add dies, build aggro on kiter adds, in case the kiter dies, you can pickup their add and resume kiting it.

Reaper MT: Position reaper SOUTH-WEST'ish (SW), as indicated in the diagram/map.  Not on the ramp, but below on the floor area, the ramp has an overhang.

MA - Kill order: FROST assaulter adds first, then FLAME assaulter adds.  DPS is more effective against frost assaulter adds vs flame, due to the shield self buff (refer to table for details).

Eyes burn with flame emote:

When we attacked reaper (snowblaze's partner), it indicates snowblaze powers up.

Perhaps related to Burning Rage /achievement.

After our Saturday run, I was thinking back to when we first looked at this event on Feb 15th.  I remembered someone mentioning something at the time after the attempt where we started out with a big burn on reaper.  Anyway, I dug through the logs and found it.  It was from Paye and Nintap. :)

I've parsed the log from that attempt, and can confirm their observations of no spheres spawning.  There's no emote present.

This is good to know, thanks Paye and Nintap for picking up on it at the time.  Also, as a side note, Paruaa asked in channel about killing reaper first, on Saturday.  I remember replying at the time that we had.  Thanks for the feedback too, Paruaa.

On a related note, while working up the analysis from Saturday's run, I was talking with Padraigg in group, and he was thinking we may have to balance reaper and snowblaze.  I'm not sure on the balance part, maybe.  If anything though, we should assign some DPS to snowblaze, and see if it reveals other emotes, or changes the script in some way.  I imagine if we were to burn snowblaze, we'd get a similar emote as we did when we burned reaper.  Which would make sense, to satisfy the other related achievement: Freezing Rage - Win after pushing the Kar`Zok snowblaze into her cold rage for at least five minutes.

Strategy Adjusts:  Assign group(s); depending on setup, as sustained DPS on reaper (melee preferred).  In addition, assign group(s), casters/range DPS to snowblaze.

Owmy is emoted, 10s later, reaper emotes waving blade in frustration.  Seems like a clear success emote.  Note also, Killing Strike was never cast.

Landaru was next to be emoted, 10s later, she was hit by Killing Strike, accompanied by a failure emote.

This situation is interesting, because it's when we were wiping and I was emoted.  At this point, my DA (invulnerability has fired), and clearly reaper is trying to hit me.  So we know at this point, reaper is FACING ME and obviously close.

Conclusion:

I agree with Kianara's point that we may have to move to reaper.  But, I also believe there's a distance check as part of the emote mechanic.  In other words, when emoted, you have to be CLOSE enough to reaper to meet the distance requirement for reaper to check around for you, and then IF you are in his sights (ie, if you were in front of reaper), you would FAIL the emote and get hit by Killing Strike.

Furthermore, several people have reported that reaper was warping around to players.  This makes sense, in that it would be too easy to simply avoid the emote mechanic by positioning reaper far away and facing away from the raid.  Therefore, with a distance check, if the player isn't within that distance, reaper warps to that player and the person fails the emote (either because of the distance check being out of bounds or reaper is facing the player that point).  Either way, it's a failure.

The situation #2 above, where I was emoted, coupled with player reports of reaper warping around, appears to support the theory of a distance check, requiring players to run to reaper, but not let reaper see you (ie, avoid front of reaper).

Strategy Adjust: When reaper trigger fires -- points his weapon at Soandso -- RUN TO TO REAPER -- NOT in his frontal view though (in sight of you).


Emanating Flames - AURA

Every 55 seconds, three orange auras spawn at various locations in the room.

The spell data, along with the resulting damage, and supporting description, indicates more damage the further away you are.  However, it seemed like the mana drain component didn't scale with the distance (I wasn't able to accurately test this, just vague recollection at the time).

Putting aside the damage at the moment, from last Saturday's attempt, I think we can conclude that Emanating Flames is going to break (remove) the shield from frost assaulter adds.  This run was the first time we actually saw a cracked emote from frost assaulters, but not a shattered one, yet.

This happened on one of our early attempts of the night, and I think it was a fluke that we probably had both an Emanating Flames aura at the main raid and one or more frost assaulter adds were inside it.  No other attempt that night resulted in a cracked emote.

Strategy Adjust: Tanks - move frost assaulter adds INTO Emanating Flames auras to crack their shield.


Aura Damage & Mana Drain:

Be mindful of false positives when testing the impact of Emanating Flames.  It's highly likely you'll have a RUNE buff on early into the event, and it's absorbing the impact of the aura damage.

Let's assume pillar of flames is the Emanating Flames entity (the actual aura), and when you die from the aura effect, it echos accordingly.  With that in mind, consider the following situation:

Interestingly, The snowblaze emote: focuses heat in areas around the room, appears to be the follow up effect.

I have a couple theories on this, but I need more data (attempts/player feedback).  One of the theories is that the auras have a head count limit, perhaps 18 players (18 x 3 auras = 54 people).  For the next run, I'm going to try to be in an aura with less people.

Trigger Adjust: Changed trigger for Emanating Flames, to merely point out that snowblaze focused heat in areas.

Strategy Adjusts

We have a couple wins under our belt on this event now, but we need to polish our strategy a bit further.


Stage 2: Magma Lord Virnax - Outside Forge Building

DO NOT KNOCKBACK/PUNT the bodyguards anymore.

Assigned tanks for each bodyguard.  Tanks reminder, NPC riposte self buff is usually on for a few seconds until we dispel it, so hold off on your melee initially.

Deflect tank for point as normal for engage.  Then assigned tanks pickup their add.  Bodyguards don't have many HP.


Stage 4: Portals, Adds, & High Arcron Ioulin - North-West

Assigned tanks for the portal adds outside.  We must kill these portal adds, otherwise we risk someone with KoS faction aggro'ing accidentally during Ioulin, or prior when destroying portals.

Also note, we've been killing Ioulin INSIDE, MAIN FLOOR.  We do this to avoid drakes.


Stage 5: After Minibosses down - Dealing with Ghosts

Adjusts to smooth out the final Ghost coordinated kill stage.

Groups assigned to Dekloaz, Virnax, Wirn, and Ri`zyr, as normal.

Forge Lord Wirn Groups - DO NOT ENGAGE/AGGRO Forge Lord Wirn until directed to do so.  This will prevent the timed forge elemental from spawning.  In the meantime, these groups can help DPS Virnax, which is nearby.

Take ghosts down to 20% HP and HOLD.

When at 20%, we call on Forge Lord Wirn assigned groups to engage their ghost and take it down to 20% and HOLD.  The nearby groups assigned to Virnax can help DPS Wirn down.

With all four ghosts at 20%, we take them down to 10%, then 5%, so it's controlled, and then a KILL NOW is made in /raidsay.

When your ghost is dead, head over to Ioulin building (NW), GO INSIDE, THE MAIN FLOOR.

MT pulls Ioulin down from TOP to MAIN FLOOR and we do our BURN to kill within the timer.

Quick Update

Even though we have a win under our belt for this event, we still want to tweak some things going foward.

When we do the GHOST stage, when the minibosses are all defeated and we co-ordinate killing the ghosts, we're adjusting it as follows:

The raid will be split up as normal, but instead of five ways, it'll be split up four ways, with two groups for each GHOST, with one ghost being assigned three groups, for a total of 9 groups (54 players).

When it comes time for the ghost stage, assigned groups go and engage their ghost, take it to 10% and HOLD until we give the signal to kill at once.  Then the entire raid will converge at Ioulin ghost and do our normal burn to meet the timer requirements.

Quick Update

After the raid last night, we took took some time to explore different areas of the zone.  As some of you know, the clicky item that starts the event doesn't work everywhere, so it restricts where we can setup and do the event.

The reason we want to move the raid to another area is to prevent players from being shadowstepped into the canyon and having wasting a lot of time running back to the raid.

The area we settled with is located in the North-East quadrant of the zone.  It's kinda near some ruins/buildings, where a rectangle area of terrain is at a lower elevation.  We believe shadowstep ports to the low areas, and can't port to upper areas, and therefore with this rectangle area, we hope that it'll limit how far players will be ported.  Also, it's much further away from the canyon, so that's no longer an issue.

Strategy Post Updates & Trigger Additions

We revisited Fell Foliage last week.  It's been a while, as we've been pushing RoS and EoK progression.  We had a good run overall.  We could use more players turning out for our efforts on new content, by the way.  :)

Various areas of the Fell Foliage strategy post has been updated.

Two big areas stand out from the analysis that we need to address.  I've worked up a table to help illustrate.

Burgeoning adds spawn every 80 seconds, approximately.  Once we kill the Burgeoning, three adds spawn, as you all know.  Also, remember we have Boss HP% adds to contend with.

Analysis

Keep in mind, these are just rough numbers.  The point is to illustrate how much DPS we need to just up with the adds.

Moar DPS!

We must improve our overall DPS performance to exceed the above thresholds to keep pace with the adds.

We need to exceed the above DPS requirements because we also require sustained DPS on the boss and be able to take out HP% adds, or we won't get anywhere :D

Recall on this event how we start out keeping pace early in, and slowly lose ground?  It's because burns tapper off, and our baseline sustained DPS performance is not quite where we need it to be.  Yet!  That's why we place so much emphasis on performance all the time, not because we want to sound like broken records. :P

Agonizing Needles:

Agonizing Needles really sucks for melee DPS (and tanks).  It decreases melee DPS Double Attack by 50% and Accuracy by 100, for tanks their melee hits cause 5% Lifetap damage.  This wouldn't be so bad if only the Boss was casting it, but basically all the adds are self buffing with Shield of Needles, and even though it procs 8 times, that's still landing on a lot of people (and pets! Pets are people too!).  Shield of Needles also appears to be flagged so that we cannot use beneficial dispel to remove it from NPCs.

Tanks with Agonizing Needles should really just hold aggro with spells/abilities, you'll take less damage.

Dealing with Agonizing Needles

Since we can't remove the effect, we have to deal with it.

Melee DPS:

Tactically, since Agonizing Needles affects Melee DPS the most, our sustained DPS on boss should consist of Melee DPS groups.  This will limit their exposure to Agonizing Needles, to only when the boss casts Shield of Needles.  Whereas, when we're fighting adds, melee are exposed to 3 to 4 adds all self buffing with Shield of Needles, and you can go through the logs and see all the melee/pets getting hit by it.

This does NOT MEAN that every melee DPS is on boss.  But as you know, we regularly assign sustained DPS to bosses, and as such we'll segment off certain group #'s to be sustained DPS on boss.

All remaining Melee DPS are to assist MA please.

Casters - We need you ON ADDS:

Nukers, assist MA for adds.

DoT'ers - Get your DoTs on the higher HP adds FIRST: SURREAL (43M HP) and SPITEFUL (62M HP) adds -- This gives you time to ramp up while the pitiful succulent is being killed.

It's taking us 23s to 28s~ to kill SURREAL adds, and 44s to 59s~ (!), to kill SPITEFUL adds.  We need these down faster.


Timing of HP% Adds

This is hard for us to do.  People tunnel in and kill the Burgeoning when they're not supposed to, when we're anticipating a HP% any second, and then <BAM> we get two sets of adds and, well... See above table for what we need to overcome that...

Ideally, we need to get our DPS to the point where we can handle a badly timed set of adds, because it's going to happen, and we can't just rely on it never happening.

Remember, when we have too many adds up, the boss goes INVULNERABLE -- So there's no reason any DPS should be on boss when we have a double set of adds in play.

Overall

Overall, we had a good run on this event last week, considering it's been late January since we were last there.  This event is totally within our grasp.
 We got Cactiikii to 48%!  We can close that gap by refining our tactics, getting into the groove and stepping up our game! :D

An outstanding team effort with 42 in the raid!  Nice work everyone!  We have a minor adjust for how we handle the final stage to co-ordinate our killing of the ghosts.  We'll post about it before the next run.
