Freelance Ramblings / Why can't i test my triggers?
« on: April 12, 2025, 03:53:03 AM »
As you may have noticed, some triggers have special characters in the search text.  These make Gina run more efficiently, but they also make triggers un-testable outside of events.

for example, the run emote to avoid Penance in High Priest mission is
^You need to do penance for your disobedience\.$

The leading ^ means the Search Text has to start at the beginning of line.

With leading ^, this will NOT fire the trigger
[Fri Apr 11 22:05:44 2025] You told Soandso, 'You need to do penance for your disobedience'

Whereas this WILL
[Fri Apr 11 21:16:51 2025] You need to do penance for your disobedience.

Now what about the \.$ and the end of the Search Text?

\ before the ".", means that the "." is NOT to be treated as a special character.  It is just a regular period.
$ means there can be nothing further after the search text.  If there are additional characters after, then the trigger will fail.

So with the $, this WILL fire the trigger
[Fri Apr 11 21:16:51 2025] You need to do penance for your disobedience.

but this will NOT
[Fri Apr 11 21:16:51 2025] You need to do penance for your disobedience.  you knucklehead

If you want to test a trigger in game, via /g or /tell for example, then open the trigger editor window and remove the leading ^ and the trailing \.$

So converting the search text from this
^You need to do penance for your disobedience\.$

to this
You need to do penance for your disobedience

will allow you to test your trigger in /g or /tell or /say.  For example you can /tell Bumkus You need to do penance for your disobedience

Once you confirm that triggers work, feel free to add the leading ^ and trailing \.$ back in.

Now, what if a Trigger STILL doesn't work, or worse it displays something that is not in the Trigger you are testing?

You might have 2 different triggers trying to fire off the same search text.  This is especially likely for Raids like High Priest and Control Room, since there are missions for these events and the emotes are the same for both.  You need to turn one of these off.  To see which Trigger fires, look at the Trigger list.  If it points to a different trigger, then find that trigger group and make sure the Box is Un-checked.

Raider Essentials / Let's talk Target Rings
« on: March 01, 2025, 02:40:53 PM »
Something that is rarely talked about is just how aweful the Default target ring can be in certain situations.

It is not bad when you are attacking a mob that MA has targetted, because the MA Target ring stands out pretty well.

But imagine your are fighting the MA-targetted mob and you notice mobs going out of balance. You are a diligent raider, so you decide to target a different mob to help balance them.  This is when you notice how difficult it is to find your target ring.  It is really bad when blue-con mobs are on bluish floors, or red-con mobs are on orangish floors.  This problem gets even worse when you are trying to find a target ring for a flying mob that is well above your head and out of sight.

Fear not, there is a solution.

Go to EQInterface.com and click Downloads -> Interface Pieces -> 3D Targeting Ring.  You will find several targetting rings to choose from.  I went with RueUI CelticDragon with Indicators for my example here.

When you see a Target Ring you like, click the download button.  This will download a ZIP file with various .TGA files and Targetindicator configuration settings.

Open the ZIP file, right click on the folder inside and click Copy.

Then go to your Everquest\UI Files folder and click Save.  If you go with my example, you will end up with \EverQuest\uifiles\CelticDragon_with_Indicators, and inside CelticDragon_with_Indicators with be .TGA files and Targetindicator configuration settings.

Now, in EQ, click Options, Load UI Skin and select the Target ring folder name you just created.

But note:  You cannot have any Spaces in your Target Ring folder.  It will look like it lets you load the new UI Skin but it won't work.

Once you Load your new UI Skin, you will need to zone for change to your target ring to take effect.

You will NOT need to resave your target ring whenever EQ patches.  The patcher only overwrites files that Daybreak itself updates.  It won't erase your new target ring folder.

Raider Essentials / GINA with multiple Timer overlays
« on: February 17, 2025, 09:28:54 PM »
Did you know that you can have multiple text and timer overlays in GINA?

Do you ever lose track of when to refresh DoTs?  Set up a DoT timer area.

Do you lose track of when to refresh those 4 - 10 minute tank buffs?  Set up a tank buff area.

Ever miss an event timer because it is buried in with 13 other timers?  Set up a separate Event timer area.

Here is screen shot of my UI.  It is any ever-changing work in process, so if anyone has any other tips, i would love to hear them.

Freelance Ramblings / BST heal proc test
« on: January 03, 2024, 07:43:23 PM »
So, I've been fiddling around with heal sticks this expansion.  By heal sticks, I mean LS T2/T3 weaps with heal procs and Reactive healing augs.  Anecdotally, i find these weapons generate Actual healing approximately equal to 1/2 the Actual healing of a maxed out Cleric Merc.  Overall, the Cleric merc puts out a lot more Total healing, but much of it is wasted due to heals going over max HP.  Heal procs from weapons are for smaller amounts and spread more evenly over time, so is not unusual to see 90% healing efficiency or better from heal procs.  A merc might run closer to 50% efficiency.

To get a better feel for just how much healing is generated, i ran some parses in the arena over on Test.  These parses are only 15 minutes each and both were done on my BST.  I'll have to run these again on my Bard or Rog once they complete Achievements in NoS and LS to make the reactive Augs.

One thing that stood out is how much more healing i got when running BST Bloodlust AA.  I have typically viewed Bloodlust as an Offensive AA exclusively.  This opens up defensive possibilities, at least for 42 seconds, which is how long Bloodlust lasts.

Grakaw bows before me.

BST - BARD - ROG + Tank Merc and 2 Healer Mercs.

After extensive research, i can confirm this is not the most optimal group for this mission.

Raid Performance / attributable dps emotes and affects
« on: February 01, 2011, 07:06:34 PM »
I've tried to list attributable effects for all the classes in the other dps thread, but I might have missed some.

Let's get all the attributable effects here for quick references.  I don't want this to turn into DPS theory.  We can do that in the other DPS thread.

Just list in the following format
  • Name of spell/disc/ability

Land phrase
Fade phrase
List of specific effects that affect others.  don't worry about fluff like Illusion components.
