Overthere - T1 - Fell Foliage

Zone & Instance Info

Gather Zone: Overthere
NPC Name: Hortulanus Cryolex
NPC Location: Find path (CTRL-F)

Keyword to Enter:now

Flag & Key Requirements

Zone Flag: None
Event Key: None
Group Mission: None
Event Flags: None

* Minimum to be Piggy/85'/pushed into raid: N/A.

Brief Event Overview & Strategy

Assist MA, priority kill ADDS FIRST, then DPS Cactiikii (boss).

Cactiikii AE rampages, we denote a location to tank it.  Adds are killed in a location outside AE Rampage from Cactiikii.

Boss spawns adds at TIMED intervals AND HP%.

A burgeoning succulent spawns every 1 min 20 sec, approximately.  When killed, spawns: a pitiful succulent, a surreal succulent, a spiteful succulent

Boss spawns HP% adds at: 83, 67, 51, 35, 19.  Adds are: a pitiful succulent, a surreal succulent, a spiteful succulent

Timing is important, as we want to avoid killing a burgeoning to get three adds at the same time we hit a HP% and spawn three additional adds.

Boss goes INVULNERABLE when too many adds are up.  We must keep pace killing adds.  Your triggers will indicate when boss is invulnerable and vulnerable.

At around 30% of Cactiikii, emotes begin targeting two random players at 40-45s~ intervals with a BIG YELLOW RING - everyone around the player in the ring area is hit with Accumulated Spines: 130k DoT + Melee SLOW + Snare + Decrease Heals Taken by 100% (24s). -- RUN AWAY WHEN EMOTED -- OTHERS STAY AWAY FROM YELLOW RING AREA AROUND OTHER PLAYERS.

A renegade succulent:

These explode for a lot of damage (emote warns, also has visual ring around mob, hard to miss it)

An assigned tank is tasked to MOVE RENEGADE SUCCULENTS AWAY FROM RAID -- Snare first, or it mob roots itself if moved too quickly.

A sprouting succulent:

Spawns random locations, if not killed grow into a renegade succulent.

Sprouting adds do not hit back.  Appear on track.  We are currently only killing if going for Achievement: Brown Thumb

MA Kill Order: A burgeoning succulent, then splits: a pitiful succulent (these mez players), a surreal succulent (these charm players), a spiteful succulent.

Raid Positioning:

Dimbly's diagrams:

That's it for now!

This is a preliminary write up, which will be amended accordingly based on our experiences and feedback provided by our raiders.

Strategy Post Updates & Trigger Additions

We revisited Fell Foliage last week.  It's been a while, as we've been pushing RoS and EoK progression.  We had a good run overall.  We could use more players turning out for our efforts on new content, by the way.  :)

Various areas of the Fell Foliage strategy post has been updated.

Two big areas stand out from the analysis that we need to address.  I've worked up a table to help illustrate.

Burgeoning adds spawn every 80 seconds, approximately.  Once we kill the Burgeoning, three adds spawn, as you all know.  Also, remember we have Boss HP% adds to contend with.

Timed Add + SplitsHP
a burgeoning succulent18 900 000
a pitiful succulent10 700 000
a surreal succulent43 500 000
a spiteful succulent61 900 000

HP Total135 000 000

Sustained DPS Req.1 687 500
(HP Total / 80 sec)

HP% Adds
a pitiful succulent10 700 000
a surreal succulent43 500 000
a spiteful succulent61 900 000

HP Total116 100 000

Sustained DPS Req.1 451 250
(HP Total / 80 sec)

Double Spawn251 100 000
(Timed Adds + HP%)

Sustained DPS Req.3 138 750
(HP Total / 80 sec)

Analysis

Keep in mind, these are just rough numbers.  The point is to illustrate how much DPS we need to just up with the adds.

Moar DPS!

We must improve our overall DPS performance to exceed the above thresholds to keep pace with the adds.

We need to exceed the above DPS requirements because we also require sustained DPS on the boss and be able to take out HP% adds, or we won't get anywhere :D

Recall on this event how we start out keeping pace early in, and slowly lose ground?  It's because burns tapper off, and our baseline sustained DPS performance is not quite where we need it to be.  Yet!  That's why we place so much emphasis on performance all the time, not because we want to sound like broken records. :P

Agonizing Needles:

Agonizing Needles really sucks for melee DPS (and tanks).  It decreases melee DPS Double Attack by 50% and Accuracy by 100, for tanks their melee hits cause 5% Lifetap damage.  This wouldn't be so bad if only the Boss was casting it, but basically all the adds are self buffing with Shield of Needles, and even though it procs 8 times, that's still landing on a lot of people (and pets! Pets are people too!).  Shield of Needles also appears to be flagged so that we cannot use beneficial dispel to remove it from NPCs.

Tanks with Agonizing Needles should really just hold aggro with spells/abilities, you'll take less damage.

Shield of NeedlesSelf buff - Add Defensive Proc: Agonizing Needles with 400% Rate Mod
Note: Defensive proc from boss.  Melee players get hit with Agonizing Needles debuff.
Player inflicted with percentage of their own melee damage.

Agonizing Needles   Proc on Players from Shield of Needles (18s duration)
   Decrease Current HP by 6500
   Lifetap from Weapon Damage: -5%
Decrease Chance to Double Attack by 50%
   Decrease Accuracy by 100

Dealing with Agonizing Needles

Since we can't remove the effect, we have to deal with it.

Melee DPS:

Tactically, since Agonizing Needles affects Melee DPS the most, our sustained DPS on boss should consist of Melee DPS groups.  This will limit their exposure to Agonizing Needles, to only when the boss casts Shield of Needles.  Whereas, when we're fighting adds, melee are exposed to 3 to 4 adds all self buffing with Shield of Needles, and you can go through the logs and see all the melee/pets getting hit by it.

This does NOT MEAN that every melee DPS is on boss.  But as you know, we regularly assign sustained DPS to bosses, and as such we'll segment off certain group #'s to be sustained DPS on boss.

All remaining Melee DPS are to assist MA please.

Casters - We need you ON ADDS:

Nukers, assist MA for adds.

DoT'ers - Get your DoTs on the higher HP adds FIRST: SURREAL (43M HP) and SPITEFUL (62M HP) adds -- This gives you time to ramp up while the pitiful succulent is being killed.

It's taking us 23s to 28s~ to kill SURREAL adds, and 44s to 59s~ (!), to kill SPITEFUL adds.  We need these down faster.

Timing of HP% Adds

This is hard for us to do.  People tunnel in and kill the Burgeoning when they're not supposed to, when we're anticipating a HP% any second, and then <BAM> we get two sets of adds and, well... See above table for what we need to overcome that...

Ideally, we need to get our DPS to the point where we can handle a badly timed set of adds, because it's going to happen, and we can't just rely on it never happening.

Remember, when we have too many adds up, the boss goes INVULNERABLE -- So there's no reason any DPS should be on boss when we have a double set of adds in play.

Overall

Overall, we had a good run on this event last week, considering it's been late January since we were last there.  This event is totally within our grasp.
We got Cactiikii to 48%!  We can close that gap by refining our tactics, getting into the groove and stepping up our game! :D

See everyone at raid!

Added Triggers:

- Boss HP% Adds
- Boss INVULNERABLE - Too many adds up - Kill adds
- Boss VULNERABLE
- Renegade succulent  - Explosion of Needles warning

Quick Update

After the raid last night, we took took some time to explore different areas of the zone.  As some of you know, the clicky item that starts the event doesn't work everywhere, so it restricts where we can setup and do the event.

The reason we want to move the raid to another area is to prevent players from being shadowstepped into the canyon and having wasting a lot of time running back to the raid.

The area we settled with is located in the North-East quadrant of the zone.  It's kinda near some ruins/buildings, where a rectangle area of terrain is at a lower elevation.  We believe shadowstep ports to the low areas, and can't port to upper areas, and therefore with this rectangle area, we hope that it'll limit how far players will be ported.  Also, it's much further away from the canyon, so that's no longer an issue.

Map Locations

Map file: overtheretwo_1.txt (right-click, "Save As", and place in EQ maps folder).

Note: The map file also contains NPC vendor locations, etc.  The /loc's below are just if you want to add to your existing map manually.

Saturday, April 7, 2018 - Fell Foliage Defeated!

Very solid first win on this event Saturday.  On the first attempt of the night, we got him to 23% -- A new emote mechanic came into play at around 30%.  We added the new trigger during CR, and took another run at it for the win.  Outstanding work everyone! :D

Trigger set has been updated.

See everyone in-game! :)

Strategy Post Updates & Trigger Update

Following our win on Saturday, I updated the trigger package to include the yellow ring Accumulated Spines emote that came into play around 30% of Cactiikii.  The strategy post has also now been updated accordingly.

Please ensure you have the most updated trigger package installed and toggled on.  Thanks!

See everyone in game! :)

Strategy Update - Thursday, July 26, 2018

We're adjusting the raid location and positioning.  A few months ago we looked at several areas, and Dimbly came up with one that we believe will be better overall.

Dimbly's workup:

The loc is p1600, n2150 on the NE wall.
  • The walls should catch sproutlings.
  • We won't see any pathers.
  • Tighter area for healing.

Dimbly's diagrams:

EDIT: Dimbly adjusted diagram so boss is not close to wall.  In response to Krinni's post regarding possible HP% adds ending up behind wall.  Thanks Krinni.

just a bit of a warning if you tank the boss to close to a zone wall the HP% adds can sometimes pop behind the zone walls and make it almost imposible to target and kill them/pull them out

Thanks Krinni.  I think I heard about that happening as well, but at the time, I thought it was when tanking the boss near the main city/fort area (where we zone into the instance, that wall).

Padraigg usually plants the cactus to start, so if anything goes wrong, we know who to blame.  ;D

As I was replying here, thinking about flipping boss/renegade spots, I guess Dimbly was as well and he worked up the alternative positioning.

Dimbly's diagram:

Edit: Updated earlier strategy adjust post with new diagram, and strategy post as well, to avoid confusion.

I figured that would not be considered sharing strats. but let me know if that type of info is under the no info from other raid teams

Yeah, that was one of the first things I thought of when you replied earlier.  It's an iffy area, technically, I would say it goes against the spirit of the policy.  Thanks for keeping it in mind and trying to adhere to it.  We appreciate the effort.  :)

Strategy Update - Thursday, July 26, 2018

Good run overall tonight.  Our smoothest to date!  Nice job everyone. :)

The new location worked out well.  Some adjusts were made over the course of a couple attempts, and then we got it down smooth on the 3rd.

Dimbly updated the positioning diagram accordingly.

Just a reminder as per our convo last week .. we need to modify the trigger for Agonizing Needles (cactus "run away" emote).  While I don't have my logs available from last week (different PC atm), I can confirm that his dot hits after 6 seconds, and the ring disappears after 12 seconds .. at that point it's safe to return (12 seconds after initial emote).  As it currently stands, the posted trigger doesn't give the "safe to return" until 24 seconds after initial emote.
