Brief Event Overview & Strategy

Note: This event may have changed from its original incarnation.  This is a preliminary workup, as with anything a WIP until we see the event first hand.

For this event we are confronted with a squads of adds that activate under certain conditions and eventually must contend with Principal Indagatrix Lucia.

Fironia Vie and Ognit Eznertob are present and help us throughout the event.  We cannot let Fironia Vie die.

We begin with Squad 1.

Squad 1: Consists of Magia Vis and Vita Fortitio mob types.
  • Mezzable.
  • Vis Fortitio - Hard hitters and proc a 14k DD + Stun.
  • Vita Fortitio - Have more HP/armor and proc a lifetap.

When half of the Fortitio adds are dead squads 2 and 3 begin casting spells but remain stationary and unattackable until all the Fortitio are dead.

Squad 2: Consists of Magia Vitoris and Facultis Fulgia mob types.
  • Stunnable.
  • Virtoris Fulgia - Cast 96k DD + Stun.
  • Facultis Fulgia - 87k DD + Mana drain 3500.

Squad 3: Consists of Magia Ignas and Humas Proloxis mob types.
  • Snareable.
  • Ignas Proloxis - 46k DoT + Snare (Target AE 40' range).
  • Humas Proloxis - 88k DD + Knockback + Stun (Target AE 30' range).

Once all the minions are dead in each squad the squad Elites come into play along with Lucia.  Each Elite has a unique AE in addition to using the associated squad adds spells.

Indagatrix Adria (Fortitio Elite)   PBAE 22k DoT + Melee SLOW.
Indagator Tatio (Fulgia Elite)   29k DoT VIRAL (40' viral range).  Missing warning emote.
Indagator Ursus (Proloxis Elite)   Target Area AURA spawns - 19k DoT + PULL.

Principal Indagatrix Lucia is the main boss and has various abilities and mechanics we must deal with:
  • Locks HP at 20% until all three elites are dead.
  • Summons elites below 20% HP and protects them for 20 seconds.
  • Every 2% of her HP she casts PBAE 50k DD.
  • Ports randomly to one of four locations, spins and casts the Beam every 30 degrees.  Resonating Beam AE 112k DD + Mana Drain 4500 + Endurance Drain 1850 + DISPEL (range 1000', AE Range 20').
  • Casts Resonating Beam also in the direction of the Elites.
  • When Elites are dead Resonating Pulse AE comes into play: PBAE 145k DD + Mana Drain 5000 + Endurance Drain 2000 + DISPEL + Stun (30' range).
  • Drops aggro at times and warps to one of the Elites and puts the elites target on her own hate list.
  • Drops aggro at times and warps to a random player and puts that player on her hate list.
  • Can also cast any AE her Elites can.
* Anti-kite mechanics in play for Elites and Lucia.

Throughout the event Scavenger Magicae Anteq adds spawn.  They despawn if charmed for 90 seconds.

As mentioned earlier FV and Ognit help us by providing support in the following ways:

Firona Vie:
  • Heals the last FOUR players who say to her: Keep me safe.
  • Randomly targets a person in the raid to heal.
  • Heals Ognit to keep him safe.

Ognit Eznertob:
  • Removes the following detrimental DoT effects by saying "need protection":
Ognit protection also includes a Spell Reflect (Defense of the Ancients).  Ognit can cast only ten of these every three minutes.

Killing all the adds, Elites and Lucia completes the event.

Scavenger Magicae Anteq Adds

Spawn throughout the event:
  • Despawn if charmed for 90 seconds.
  • A maximum of four scavengers can be active at any given time.  If a 5th spawns, an active one despawns.
  • Scavengers cast a DD + Mana drain + Stun.
  • They find players with the most mana and increase their hatred towards them.

Map of area:

Scavenger adds spawn every 55 sec, Lucia gives the message:

Principal Indagatrix Lucia says 'Beware, magia. The parasites are returned, drawn by the magic of our conflict!'

We also saw the following message:

Fire begins to form around your feet.

I wasn't able to tell what this indicates.

The raid needs to be more aware of Lucia's beam - she casts a 100k frontal DD, rotates 2 inches, then casts it again every 2-4 seconds. It only has 20' range so people need to either back up if she shadowsteps close to you, or reposition to stand behind her. One of our attempts she shadowstepped in front of us, then started incinerating the entire raid right as the big group of adds went active. We had no chance. :P

When the first group of adds die, it seems like the southern adds would be more dangerous and should die first (MA did call these first) - they're snareable, but all mobs in this event cast anti-kite Chains of Binding.

i would be led to believe that the emote about fire at your feet is a precursor to the magia ignas proloxis casting ignas maxio on your location.  it is a targetted ae for 40' range around the target that does 45999 per tick for 3 ticks and snare of 65%.  with dot shielding it seems that it was doing 26900 or 29900 per tick to most people i saw in log.

the ae from the magis humas proloxis was called humas maxio and it was immediate damage and stun on the target with an ae range of 30'.  it does 88560 damage and has a knockback/toss to it.  personal damage shows between 54828 and 57414 with one full resist out of the three times it hit me.

if one has a warning emote - perhaps the other does as well.  i did not see any instances in my log of the fire at your feet emote to gauge.

once they start casting, the ignas maxio spell goes off every 30 seconds. it is instant cast.
the humas maxio spell goes off every 35 seconds. it too is instant cast.

magia virotis fulgia casts claustro vitoris. single target. i could not get a good read on how often as i would be assuming that the paladins were keeping them stunned.
magia facultis fulgia casts the claustro facultis. single target. again as above, could not get a good read on how often as the times got staggered in log.

the magis humas proloxis hit me for 40003 damage on one hit. so controlling them quickly is imperative.

Scavenger adds spawn every 55 sec, Lucia gives the message:

Principal Indagatrix Lucia says 'Beware, magia. The parasites are returned, drawn by the magic of our conflict!'

From my logs this appears to be 110 seconds.

[Sat Jan 17 22:37:48 2015] Principal Indagatrix Lucia says 'Beware, magia. The parasites are returned, drawn by the magic of our conflict!'
[Sat Jan 17 22:39:38 2015] Principal Indagatrix Lucia says 'Beware, magia. The parasites are returned, drawn by the magic of our conflict!'

Edit:  Mildaria logs are showing more parasites lines which are in fact indicating 55s difference.  There could be some range limit on /say emote for this particular NPC, as my logs are only showing half the emotes for this particular pattern.  Either way, let's go with the 55s one.

We also saw the following message:

Fire begins to form around your feet.

I wasn't able to tell what this indicates.

I agree with Gimamams post and believe this is possibly Ignas Maxio - 46k DoT + Snare (Target AE 40' range, 18s).

This is mostly revealed parsing for the fire emote to fire spell reference and correlating the emote timestamp to mob spell cast.  Note in green highlighted the emote and purple mob cast time difference is 10 seconds.  Not definitive because I can't recall if/which emotes I moved for and therefore avoided the area targeted and so forth.  Also as you note I am hit by the damage, but that could be me moving into another targeted area.  Need better context and more data.

Also looks like two people emote targeted every 30 seconds.

Regex using: (Fire begins to form around your feet|you have taken|You resist the Ignas Maxio spell|a magia ignas proloxis begins to cast a spell. <Ignas Maxio>|Flames engulf you.)

The raid needs to be more aware of Lucia's beam - she casts a 100k frontal DD, rotates 2 inches, then casts it again every 2-4 seconds. One of our attempts she shadowstepped in front of us, then started incinerating the entire raid right as the big group of adds went active. We had no chance. :P

For now, I think the best way to counter this is with a resonating beam warning trigger with a move away from boss action.  Basing it on green portion of being hit once:

[Sat Jan 17 22:37:48 2015] You are hit by a powerful resonation.  You have taken 69440 points of damage.

In anticipation when Elites are down, the beam changes to a pulse with increased effects.  We can use another trigger to the effect of: A pulse resonates within your very core.

When the first group of adds die, it seems like the southern adds would be more dangerous and should die first (MA did call these first) - they're snareable, but all mobs in this event cast anti-kite Chains of Binding.

Anti-kite Chains of Binding confirmed in logs.

Strategy Adjusts

Took our first look at this event on Saturday to size it up.

Avoiding successive Resonating Beam AE hits from the boss can be accomplished through a trigger.  Beam/Pulse reminder:
  • Lucia ports to random locations, spins and casts a Resonating Beam AE 112k DD + Mana Drain 4500 + Endurance Drain 1850 + DISPEL (range 1000', AE Range 20').
  • Casts Resonating Beam also in the direction of the Elites.
  • When Elites are dead, Lucia casts Resonating Pulse AE: PBAE 145k DD + Mana Drain 5000 + Endurance Drain 2000 + DISPEL + Stun (30' range).
The second factor for deaths was scavenger adds (which we're charming to despawn).  A trigger was added to indicate when a scavenger add spawns.  This should help Bards and Enchanters.

Trigger Additions

- Scavenger add spawn trigger added, with charm message.
- Resonation triggers added.

seems like only the person who will be the center of the ae is getting the emote, but if they dont move its still a lot of people getting hit.

you didn't happen to get any emotes for the humas maxio did you?

No emotes that I saw, but then again, did you?  If so, what was the emote?

I didn't even get hit by the effect of Humas Maxio.  Parsed using: You are engulfed in grinding earth.

got hit 3 times. the two damage values in my previous post and one full resist.  i didn't see an emote of any kind.

i didn't see an emote from the fire either.

i think they get a preset hate list that is sorta shared off the other mobs since they are active for a minute or two while we finish off wave one, and it ends up being mostly healers that are getting hit with them since i couldn't hit them with aggro spells till they were freed.
i saw messages from mildaria, you, goet, etc regarding seeing the fire emote.

might have people pay extra attention next time for an earth emote.

Strategy Adjusts

Foritio Adds:

Killing adds, not holding % based to stall.  It was worth trying, but we're losing too many tanks as a result of mez breaks in various forms.  In addition, the delay is increasing our hang time resulting in more scavenger adds to deal with.  The intent was to shorten our window from when the 4th Fortitio add dies which activates spell casts from the other two squads until the final Fortitio dies which completely activates the other two squads.  The long and short here is that in theory it would work, but in practice it wasn't playing out very well.  We're only taking a few minutes to kill the 4th Fortitio until 8th in our earlier attempts, and therefore it is more viable revert to that tactic.  Minor adjust in this area, we can short burn from 4th Fortitio onward, to clean up those last four mobs more quickly then prior runs.

Scavenger Adds:

Assigning float tanks to pickup errant scavenger adds and OT them until charmed.  This will help prevent them from killing others.  Please don't kite these around, as the distancing from charmers makes it difficult for them to re/charm.  Also, the longer they remain up and not charmed they will change targets and go after the person in the raid with the most mana.  They also cast Mana Parasite.

Float tanks, having a hotkey directed at FLRaids to the the effect of: Charm my target please, may be helpful for Enchanters and Bards.

Trigger Additions

Fire & Electricity Emotes:

As posted previously, we had a fire emote reported and confirmed.  Further reports following Thursdays raid provided detail and confirmation on Electricity emote.  Both of these require that players RUN AWAY FROM THE RAID.  Standard emote/run away triggers added for both.

The effects are causing a lot of unnecessary damage to the whole of the raid.  So please be mindful when your trigger fires and move away from the raid appropriately.  Failure to do so causes everyone nearby to take additional damage.

Lucia Moves, Pivots & AE Beams:

Lucia boss moves to locations, pivots and AE Beams.  By pivot we mean spins like a clock ticking, incrementally, turns slightly, AE Beams, turns again, AE Beams.

The Beam is frontal, 1000' range and 20' wide.  You want to avoid being in the line the beam hits.

The cleanse emote we suspected had something to do with the moves was confirmed last night:

[Thu Jan 22 22:42:02 2015] Principal Indagatrix Lucia says 'I shall cleanse all intruders from this place!'

We made an additional trigger to help warn when Lucia moves each time and the related pivot and AE Beam.  When the trigger fires, look/adjust your position accordingly if you are too close to boss.

We've also been raid marking Lucia to help her stand out.  Remind me if I forget to do this prior to event start please.

Note: It also may be that Lucia is porting to the same locations.  Ideally, if proved true, we could potentially adjust our raid positioning help in this area.  Additional runs should be more revealing in this regard.

Edit: Adjusted range description above to be more accurate.
Trigger Conflicts

Deadhills raid trigger: begins to form around you

Conflicts with the Fire and Electricity Emotes:

Fire begins to form around your feet
Electricity begins to form all around your body

Solution:

Edit Deadhills raid trigger and add a period at the end of the pattern after the word you:  begins to form around you.

Trigger Check

Refresh the page before you download the GINA trigger file from the strategy post.  This ensures that you don't accidentally get a cached copy of the file.

Once you import the GINA trigger file, click on your Character Name (green bar, in left pane of GINA), to toggle on the display of [ x ] check boxes for the triggers in the right pane.  Scroll down and find the related event triggers and ensure they are toggled on, indicated by a check mark for each trigger; as appropriate.

Double check that you have the following triggers based on the Includes: list located in the trigger section just below where you clicked the GINA trigger package line.  I try my best to keep this updated to reflect the current package so that it can be used for both tracking and to verify the packaged triggers do reflect the triggers in the file.

Adjusts

Triggers

Trigger adjusts were shared in channel last week.  I've since updated the package file to reflect.  We added 2 seconds to the overlay timer and added "Safe to return" text/voice for the Fire/Electricity emote triggers.  Our concern was players potentially returning too early and/or not knowing when to return.  If you don't have the changes, import the related file and ensure they are toggled on and working correctly please.

Lucia Beam

Highly recommended that everyone turn on the visual effects to see the beam as it pivots around.  Knowing when the beam is coming around makes it much easier to avoid it.  I have an older computer and was able to toggle the effects on and not notice a performance hit.  Here are the settings I used:

In-game: ALT-O for Options window, click Display tab.

Look for Particles (has 3 tabs below it)

Spell tab
Near Clip: Farthest
Density: Low (can try highest first to check performance)
On For: Me + NPC
Opacity 50%

Env tab
Near Clip: Near
Density: Medium
Opacity 50%

Player tab
Nearl Clip: Farthest
Density: Low
On For: Me + NPC
Opacity 50%

* Also have to toggle on Show Spell Effects via a /command in-game: /showspelleffects on

You'll have to zone zone for some of the above changes to take effect.  Perhaps on raid gather/prep, adjust and then zone out of Katta and back to tweak as needed.  After the first Lucia run, you should have a good idea where/what settings allow you to not take a big performance hit based on your computer and still be effective at avoiding Lucias beam AE.

Tank Notes

During the Elites, remember that Lucia targets Elites with her beam.  Backup tanks on Elites we're not actively killing, you can probably avoid this beam if you stand slightly back but still use aggro abilities allowing you to jump in if the current MT dies.  This saves our healers from diverting from their MT to patch you up.

Fire & Electricity Emotes

As many of you know, there's no public emotes available for both these mechanics.  Private emotes are sent to the players targeted.  This is an issue and I've bugged it in game and have sent several developers PMs regarding it.

I'm not entirely convinced that all our emote failures are player reaction failures.  Four people are targeted every 35s or so if I recall.  Now, if the same 1-3 culprits (players failing) are targeted very often I can see us getting the amount of failures we currently are, but I have a hard time believing the odds are going that way (it is possible though).  I'm not saying we don't have people that fail emotes, we do and we address/work with them in tells and in our channels.   The point here is, it's entirely possible something else is in play.

Here's my theory.  To my knowledge, pets cannot be targeted by emotes.  However, what if pets by association are causing the failures.  In other words, a pet class (Magician for example, can be any pet class), is targeted by an emote, the player runs away correctly, but leaves their pet at the raid.  Their pet is nearby other players and the system may be registering their owner as failing the emote.  We could test this by suspending all pets for this raid, including no swarm pets.  Just to see in general if it decreased the emote failures.

Hotfix: Thursday, March 5:

Principal Indagatrix Lucia (Raid) - Fixed the messaging from the Humas Proloxis and Ignas Proloxis so that all players should be able to see the warning messages from their AoE spells.
- Principal Indagatrix Lucia (Raid) - Principal Indagatrix Lucia will no longer jump to attack NPCs, including pets or Firiona. Also, when she warns about incoming parasites, she will shout so that all of her Magia can hear her.

That's right.  Busting out the red handled machete tonight (for all you TWD fans, you know what that means), one or more of you clowns failing emotes is going down.

My suggestion is to have the raid stay in a pile, and move as a group every 10-15s. Given the short duration between emotes, this may not be feasible. Alternatively, we could all spread out, and just move when someone near you is emoted.

Turning the raid into a marry go round would lose too much dps that we are already lacking in. We have trouble stun locking 4 mobs while we have 4 paladins and 3 enchanters and we have trouble with positioning in all areas whether it's mob positioning or PC positioning, and we have yet to do this raid without someone using an AE spell or attack and waking up half of the mezzed Fortitios, and we seem to enjoy root punting the prolox mobs way off behind the hills on the far walls so FV can go and get herself killed.... moving as a coordinated pile every 20 seconds is out of the question :p

I said this on our first few attempts at doing this raid, that we need to learn to just heal through the AE damage because there will never be a time when we don't have the AE's hit the main raid pile. The nature of the AE's on how they work coupled with this being an open raid team and having new people join us on a very regular basis who have never done the raid guarantee that there will be missed emotes. We have to get over the blame game or the think-tank mentality of how to avoid the ae or how to stop it from happening because bottom line is, it's going happen each time we do this raid. I have a hotkey that cures the AE with Ognit, and a few other high priority players should do the same, IE a Good Warrior or two, A Good Enchanter or two and a good cleric or two and our MA (Myself, Mist, OE, Mildy, Furro, BD, Orumptiyum). It's 10 people every 3min ~

First Stage: The Fortitio.
Do what we have been doing so far with this first wave of having a knight Deflect/start and AE mez. Go back to the kill the first 4, then the remaining 4 we bring each mob at a time to 20%, then AE fuck them up and kill them asap. We weren't very good at doing this when we tried it, but it is the best way to limit how often the AE will fire/hit us.

Second Stage. Fulgia and Proloxis.
We crumble pretty fast and become headless chickens on this stage way too often. I use to just pop fort and ae when this stage started because way too many were dieing when these 8 mobs went live.. waaaay too many.. Tanks have gotten better though so I usually will fade off all of the agro I've built up on the Fulgia and prolox from tanking the Fortitio so they no longer all b-line to me. We started using a good strat on the fulgia last night with just having 1 warrior fort/ae the pile to the designated location, then the assigned tanks peeling off that warrior when in position(and hoping they are stun locked when at the position). The best way to handle these two piles of 4 mobs each, is to setup a warrior near each pile before the last mob from the previous wave dies, then have them Fort/AE thier pile when they go Live instead of using 8 tanks total who each have to use a deflect or other discs where 1 for each pile will suffice. We also need to get waaay better at stun locking the Fulgia, unless we have low turnouts of paladins and enchanters there really isn't a reason these 4 cant be locked down. As for the prolox, rooting is the safest, but I'd just be mindful of the direction the rooter is facing before they knock thier mob way off to no mans land where nobody is going to be looking and therefore FV secretly goes to kill herself. Which set to kill first depends on how many stunners we have for the fulgia really, or at least how well they are being stun locked I guess. Rooting seemed to be easier/better handled than stun locking so that's why Fulgia die first though one would rather the prolox die first because the KB ae is annoying.

Third Stage! 3 Minis and boss
This one again is rough at the onset. By preserving the warriors/knights deflect and Fortitude by using only two in the previous stage we should have at the least 4 with the discs up and gtg when these go live. I would use warriors to tank these btw instead of knights (again depends largely on turnout and who is in the raid). Warriors are just better off tanking especially when we will have 4 mobs tanked at once and we are stretched thin already. The positioning is bad on this part too, as I don't think we have ever tanked the 3 minis in the same location on this raid yet. Setup designated spots for each mini and the boss to be tanked. I've already expressed my thoughts on where on previous raids and why, they don't need to be way the hell apart from each other just spread out enough that the beams don't overlap on the raid targeting the minis and the Mini's AE's aren't criss crossing the raid pile from being too close, the AE's all have really small ranges. This is  something that can be shown in game of where to plant each mini as I've tried to do on previous raids before we go. Also we should kill the annoying mini who does the gravity flux aura first because that's annoying as hell.  Paladins at this stage also do group armor and spire, we are getting better at this but still could use some work. Go check out the post I made on the Forums here under Buffs post don't make it a suggestion make it an order. Another thing on the last stage I've mentioned in the tank channel before is to not spread the minis so far apart, as when the boss jumps the mini tank the farther the MTO has to run to her to drag her off you, the longer she has to beat you down and kill. Warriors use warlords grasp when she warps, best and quickest way to get boss off who she warps to and back in position.

We make this raid a lot harder than it needs to be, but a few tweeks here and there on minor things that a lot take for granted and we should be fine.

I agree that it appears the emote is firing at the initial warning location.

Re: Stay together and shift

I also agree that it wouldn't be very feasible nor efficient to shift with such a short interval between effects.  There's also the CC aspect and how shifting would affect them.

Re: Spread out

This is how we initially started out on our earlier runs, it was only recently, we've had concerns with being spread out which limits the areas where players can run to when emoted.  The up side of course is that it spreads out the damage from failed emotes and therefore we take less overall damage.

The huge downside to being spread out is that it effectively cripples our dps, resulting in longer kill times on the adds which exposes our tanks/everyone to greater risk of death from both adds and/or emote failures.  DPS is everything.  You guys know how I am in this regard.  Melee DPS in particular are less effective when they range DPS, and I've also found that our Caster DPS; with a spread out mentality tend to drift away from their group healer and also end up being OOR of aDPS which further reduces their effectiveness.

I have a problem with the fact that we're dealing with an emote mechanic in which the penalty is avoidable with proper reaction (outside of an occasional snare).  In other words, we shouldn't have to adapt our strategy to an extreme to compensate for emote failures and poor player performance.  Instead, we'll focus on the latter, which in the long haul improves us as a team.

Player Emote Failure and Performance Levels

I want to take a moment here and explain some policy going forward as it relates to emote mechanics and player performance levels in general.

We do collectively attempt to isolate who/why emote failures are occurring and work with individuals to prevent future failures.  However, in the absence of effort or improvement on this front, repeat offenders will no longer be tolerated and those individual(s) will be removed from the raid (no bench credit given).

Along the same vein, players who think they are "special" and enjoy "doing their own thing" and/or not listening/abiding to instruction from RA/RL (Raid Authorities/Leader), are being warned of their actions politely in /tell and given a single chance to improve/adapt and conform as it relates to the issue at hand.  Failure in this regard results in the removal of said offenders from our raid (no bench credit given).

The level at which each individual player performs has a direct impact on the overall raid.  Collectively, we must be cohesive, efficient and continually improve our game.  Those who know me, understand that the aforementioned disciplinary actions taken are not personal and are done in the interest of the team as a whole.  Those who do not share this mindset, please take a step back and reflect.  Upon joining our raids, there is an expectation of each person being a team player, following instructions and performing their class role.  Failure to do otherwise is an insult and disservice to others in attendance.
